Publisher's summary

The Navy SEALs have been fighting terrorists around the world for over a decade. And for all that time, the Bandito Platoon SEALS from SEAL Team Seven have been on continuous combat rotation. Now they have drawn a shipboard assignment off Central America - an easy day.

But for a Navy SEAL, the only easy day was yesterday.

In a powerful story of global anti-terrorism inspired by real life missions, Act of Valor combines stunning combat scenes, up-to-the-minute battlefield technology, and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.

Act of Valor takes you deep into the secretive world of today’s most elite, highly trained group of warriors. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the United States, a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitments to country, team, and their families back home.

But each time they accomplish their mission, a new piece of intelligence reveals another shocking twist to the plot, which stretches from Chechnya to the Philippines and from Ukraine to Somalia. The widening operation sends the SEALs across the globe as they track the terrorist ring to the U.S.-Mexico border - where they engage in an epic firefight with potentially unimaginable consequences for America…

Inspiring story restores faith in American values

The characters depicted in this tale were realistic, down to earth people. Solid family men who are extraordinary in skill and brave to the extreme. Men who are willing to give their lives for the sake of their nation. The pace of their exploits continued to increase to a crescendo in the final chapters. Clancy, true to form, presents facts and extrapolates into fiction providing intrigue and believable scenarios. Intelligence gathered during Covert Operations leads the seal team across the globe to prevent a terrorist attack which will dwarf 911. Success mixed with tragedy touches the emotions as the story winds down. I highly recommend this audio book.

Great novel....good dedication to the seals..

Where does Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Through the majority of the novel it is pretty tame.. its the last few minutes.. that is emotionally... well it will bring a tear to any service member who has served. In the grand scheme of things it was a good book, not the best.. but a great story.

What did you like best about this story?

The emotion at the end...

Have you listened to any of Steven Weber’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time listening to him.. he has a spec war type voice.. it was good

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Sort of.. I enjoyed the movie (watched it first) the listened.. it goes into more depth, but a one sitter... not really

Any additional comments?

Good book go SEALs!

Act of Valor, a credible story

Would you listen to Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor again? Why?

Whilst I'm a one time listener only I found this book to be well written and able to keep my interest the whole way through. The narrator did a great job and offered plenty of oral inflection and drama to the story.

What other book might you compare Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor to and why?

Having just read the American Sniper I found this somewhat similar although the former is a true account of Kyle's time as a SEAL. Act of Valor no doubt portrays the type of mission these guys are into all over the world and I found the references to other notable events quite interesting in both books.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the finale as it conjured up a great image of the guys going into battle in garbage trucks! The ensuing scenes were high action, high body count and the intensity of the battle came through in the author's writing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I found the moments surrounding Rork's death and his partner finding out she had lost her husband particularly moving.

Any additional comments?

Whilst I was trying to work out the plot while listening to the book's credit I wasn't able to pick exactly what would happen until the final stages...great work.

A compelling Navy Seal narrative

This audible book featured a very strong audio performance by the narrator and kept the action flowing very smoothly and convincingly. There is much detail as to armament and navy procedures, perhaps too extensively. The story is compelling however the plot is thin. It does represent a good engaging Audible experience.

LOVE Steven Weber

Would you consider the audio edition of Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor to be better than the print version?

While fascinating, a lot of description of complicated machinery, technical specifications, and performance optimization was presented in this book. It was made palatable by the narrator. A tiny smattering of the complexities of our national defense and what goes on behind the scenes is unveiled in this book. Truly interesting. I didn't get the sense of knowing and appreciating the characters, but all in all a good read (listen).
Steven Weber, from the old "Wings" sitcom, is a fantastic narrator. I will continue to seek out his narrations.

What does Steven Weber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Technical jargon. He sounds excited and enthused and proud when presenting the type of information that would be hard to follow otherwise. Maybe he could help me understand Chemistry and Algebra - he's that good!!
