RITA Award Winner, Best Novel with Strong Romantic Elements, 2009

Finally out of the celebrity spotlight and away from her mother's demands, Cilla is free to do what she loves: fixing up houses for profit. But her current project is personal. The Shenandoah Valley farm house was once the vacation home of Hollywood luminary Janet Hardy, Cilla's grandmother.

When Cilla uncovers a stash of her grandmother's private letters, and begins asking questions about the past, she becomes the target of a crazed killer who's determined to keep family secrets buried no matter what the cost.

Similar story

This was a good story but reminiscent of Midnight Bayou. Main character renovates the family home. Ghost(s) who speak in dreams. The only thing that bothered me was the reader. She must have been late for another appointment. She read incredibly fast and had a certain cadence that was annoying at times.

Another good one

I had forgotten that I read a hard copy of this book years ago when I downloaded it. I didn't remember until I was a couple of chapters in, but it didn't matter. I enjoyed it. I enjoy watching DIY shows, and live in a fixer upper, so to listen to the remodeling parts was fascinating to me. I wasn't in to the hero much, even his description didn't do much for me, and his accent threw me off through the whole book. And, as usual, there's the obligatory treat-the-heroine-like-a-child part, but for once, she stands up to him adequately.

I had forgotten the ending, and while it was obvious, it was fun getting there. All in all, enjoyable!

Enjoyed narration

Good story and narrator. Enjoyed the accents and different voices. Story drug on a little longer than necessary but I enjoyed it.

A little slow and not really surprising

Not one of my favourites , quite slow , narrative ok, story a little weak.

Love

Love the story and history about each character. A delight that kept me guessing to the end.

The narator the house and the dog

This is one of my favorite NR books.
The story, characters and the discription of the property all are so vivid.
I have listened to this book at least 3 times.
