About this listen

A jaded bartender is wooed by a charmingly quirky couple in this fresh and sizzling polyamorous rom-com, set in the glamorous world of high-end cocktail bars—from the acclaimed author of the “tender, decadent, and sparklingly funny” (Lana Harper, New York Times bestselling author) Chef’s Choice.

As a bartender at Terror & Virtue, a swanky New York City cocktail lounge known for its romantic atmosphere and Insta-worthy drinks, Mel has witnessed plenty of disastrous dates. That, coupled with her own romantic life being in shambles, has Mel convinced love doesn’t exist.

Everything changes when Bebe walks into the bar. She’s beautiful, funny, knows her whiskeys—and is happily married to her partner, Kade. Mel’s resigned to forget the whole thing, but Bebe makes her a unique offer: since she and Kade have an open marriage, she’s interested in taking Mel on a date.

What starts as a fun romp turns into a burgeoning relationship, and soon Mel is trying all sorts of things she’d been avoiding, from grand romantic gestures to steamy exploits. Mel even gets the self-confidence to enter a cocktail competition that would make her dream of opening her own bar a reality. In the chaotic whirl of all these new experiences, Mel realizes there might be a spark between her and Kade, too. As Bebe, Kade, and Mel explore their connections, Mel begins to think that real love might be more expansive than she ever thought possible.

With TJ Alexander’s signature “witty and insightful voice, complex characters, and full-throated celebration of the joy of queer community” (Ava Wilder, author of How to Fake It in Hollywood), Triple Sec is a passionate, thirst-quenching love story that will have you asking for another round…or three.©2024 TJ Alexander (P)2024 Simon & Schuster Audio

Misleading description

Through this book, one of the main characters named KADE was represented as androgynous, and that the wife of KATE referred to sad person as her wife. Throughout the book, KADE is described as androgynous and wearing artsy clothing. and having a modulated voice. It isn’t until nearly the final chapter that we are forced to realize that this KADE person has a PENIS! I was led to believe that this story was about a bartender, a female bartender who meets a lesbian couple and slowly becomes attached to them to the point that she has feelings for both of them and they become a trio in all the biblical sense. However, we were led to believe that all three of them were female with female genitalia. Now I can’t get the image of that damn, PENIS out of my head. I feel like I was deceived. In fact, I was deceived! KADE might have been having the feelings of being female, however, the genitalia is very important.

The most accurate portrayal of Polyamory I've seen in a while

the characters have great depth, actually talk about their relationship instead of ✨ magically✨ making it work.

finally normalizing poly

first and foremost, not all Narrators are created equal and Jeremy Carlisle Parker is head and shoulders above most, Brava Mx. Parker, Brava!

the story flowed and made sense. it was nice to see a non-binary character play a major role in the story and even better a non-binary character that didn't feel like a characature. it was also fabulous to see a brief glance at polyamory and the language associated around polyamory. Following Mel's entrance into the poly world let the reader enter the world as a beginner and allowed the reader to start to learn. overall I really enjoyed this novel!

Listen to this!

I was pleasantly surprised how good this book was. Poly relationships are often misunderstood and/or frowned upon. I live by the motto 'to each their own'. I loved the characters, the development of said characters and the love that was shared in this book. This one goes in my top 10 of this year's books. The narrator was EXCELLENT! Loved everything about this one.
