Publisher's summary

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens - town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing - even murder - to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.

Too Grim to Finish

This is a fascinating story, but there's so much cruelty that I couldn't finish it.

Loved it!

Stephen King is the best storytelling author of them all and this time he had a decent ending. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of King's but every since the Dark Tower series and its awful ending, I savor the stories but dread the endings until now. On one hand, this story is a little far fetched but on the other hand, I live in small town and it has made me think twice about being ready for a disaster. Doesn't everyone know a James Renny (sp?)? This story definitely plants King's paranoia roots pretty deep. But what do you expect from a little gonja, either past or present?

Classic King - Wonderful!!

If you like classic King, you'll love this one! Yes there are a lot of characters, and I noticed the printed book has sort of a cheat sheet at the front of the book. But after a while, it's really not hard to keep track of who's who. I have a long commute and this book has been a saving grace. Truly hope King continues to produce books like this one. Awesome!

One of the Best Books I've Listened to.

It's got everything that makes a good book...a villian, a hero, a heroine, romance, suspense, action, joy, sadness, and a cute dog! I could go on and on. It is 34 hours long, but I wish it was even longer. I want to know more about the characters and what's happened to them beyond the book. It's certainly worth your time. In fact, I know I'll listen to it again.

Great performance, but disappointing wrap up at the end

I really don't like a book that has so much story, so much detail, so much intrigue and you're so wrapped up in what's going on. Really enjoying a great soap opera. Then at the end it feels like the author got tired and said, "let's have Pam wake up from a dream and surprise... Bobby is alive and well and in the shower."

30 hours of pure listening pleasure

Another amazing S King novel with a great cast of villains, heroes and normal folk reacting to disaster. If you like S King, you will love “Under the Dome.”

Stephen king is the best

His descriptive writing pulls me in and I can stop wanting more. Raul has done such a fantastic job narrating, and I enjoy his familiar voice (I am an avid watcher of law and order, SVU) and am further impressed by his abilities!

Impossible to put away!

What did you love best about Under the Dome?

I read this book myself first - and have now listened to the audiobook.

The story itself is very interesting, as it portraits how people react under pressure, even though it has only been a few days since the dome came down, people still go crazy in the supermarket. I also love the fact that you really feel that you are there, participating in all the action.

The book is very well written, as I think all of Stephen Kings books are - it's always a pleasure.

Which character – as performed by Raul Esparza – was your favorite?

I think Raul Esparza reads it well, however, sometimes a little too slow for my taste, but otherwise I think he captures the characters well.
