Publisher's summary

Fifteen-year-old Joe Beck wasn’t listening as the minister eulogized his uncle but was already planning on what he would have to do as soon as they returned to the Quimby farm. He wasn’t welcome there even before his uncle had died and knew that his cousin John would soon order him to leave.

While he had had a basic idea of where he would go after he left the farm, he didn’t know what he would do with the rest of his life. But he knew for certain that he didn’t want to spend another day where he wasn’t wanted. It would take a nearby battle to start him down the path to his future.

A Different Time

CJ Petit writes about the exciting times with insights into good and bad characters living in a hard time with exciting action and emotional character development. The main character is cool, independent and resilient. He is creative and just good hero material. It’s a good read!

character Joe

Good read (listen). Story kept me captivated. Well written. Good suspence. Really good Civil War interaction. The listen brought me into the scenes.

Love this story,beautifully done.More please!

The boy, the man and his kindness. A man with his own code to do what is right, to have a kind heart, to live, to survive and to love. In a hundred years this wonderful book is going to be a classic in history. I can’t wait for the next in this series. Please keep them coming Mr. C.J. Petit. Awesome performance and narration. I didn’t want it to stop!

Don’t understand what you want

Liked it all. Nice story. And liked the fact that it showed the fact the youth of the period were so more adult then today.

Great edition of wagon train.

Last third of the book tediously bored me as it went on some weird psychological obsession with the couple having sex. Basically two chapters of meandering nonsensical foreplay. Not sure what the author was trying to prove with that but it definitely distracted from the better narrative.

Slow and Predictable

This book started out with promise. About halfway through it became very slow and predictable. The interactions between Joe and Faith were corny and sappy.

Not enough action.

Almost the whole book talks about two people consumating there marriage. Not just mentioned but hours of that being the main discussion. Really? Indians, outlaws, raider's and you waist not a few minutes now and then to show the characters love but entire chapters?
