Publisher's summary

Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II, which begins with The Winds of War and continues here in War and Remembrance, stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

These multimillion-copy best sellers are stirringly read by Kevin Pariseau for their first appearance in downloadable audio.

Critic reviews

"Brilliant…. An outstanding novel and at the same time a great work of history…. Wouk has more than recaptured the period; he has given it life." (Henry Kissinger)
"Those who lived through World War II can most fully appreciate the resonances in this uncommonly readable book. But it is clearly meant – and recommended – for those who did not." ( Time)
"Moving, thrilling fiction…. Wouk is a magnificent storyteller." ( Boston Globe)

Great historical fiction read

The book is captivating. Great reminder of what was happening in the world during the 40's. And though it was a terrible time in the history of mankind, it is still so relevant today in what can happen if we are not careful and hold people accountable. I found this book and the first book, Winds of War, by Herman Wouk, very articulate and moving. I highly recommend both.

Fantastic story

One of the best books I have ever read! Beautifully written and researched. The characters live on long after the final sentence is read.

A true masterpiece

First listen to The Winds of War. Then follow it with this title. Both are true masterpieces.

Sets the standard for historical fiction

What an astounding achievement this book and, of course, the predecessor, The Winds or War are! On top of the amazing literary work, this narrator is outstanding as well.
If you are remotely inclined to choose this book, presumably because you at least have some interest in WW2, then just do it. You will not regret it.

Supurb

This is a supurb experience.... rich and satisfying. Historically enlightening and romantically enticing, I recommend this one.

Best Book on WW II

Really give one insight on the war that no one really talked or writes about, especially the period before America entered the war.

Interesting revisit after so many years

I read this novel many years ago when it first came out. I also watched the TV mini-series. The WWII history it covers and the details it provides is most interesting.

I am annoyed by how women are represented and the narrator did those female characters no favor in how he voiced their dialog. (The protagonist, Pug, has terrible taste in women.) And somehow, either the writing or the narration missed communicating why the characters were even attracted to each other. The narrator did an excellent job otherwise.

But all in all, the purchase and listening was well worth the investment of time and money.

Fantastic

Such a well told, multifaceted book! The war as seen and felt through many lenses is intricately woven but accessible to the listener. The characters seem like real historical figures. The performance is easy to listen to and well done.
