Publisher's summary

Colleen Oakes' twisted reimagining of the Queen of Hearts origin story comes to a thrilling conclusion in War of the Cards.

Dinah has lost everyone she ever loved. Her brother was brutally murdered. The wicked man she believed was her father betrayed her. Her loyal subjects have been devastated by war. And the boy she gave her heart to broke it completely.

Now, a dark queen has risen out of the ashes of her former life. Fury is blooming inside Dinah, poisoning her soul and twisting her mind. All she has left is Wonderland and her crown and her obsession to fight for both. But the war rages on, and Dinah could inherit a blood-stained throne. Can a leader filled with love and rage ever be the ruler her kingdom needs? Or will her all-consuming wrath bring Wonderland to its knees?

This is not a story of happily ever after.

This is the story of the Queen of Hearts.

Fun series

I really enjoyed this series. I liked the idea of getting to know the red queen as she was growing up.

I Think About it Often

War of the Cards was an epic culmination of Dinah's story. I highly recommend the entire series. My introspection has been triggered, I often think about this series.
Dinah is so flawed it is physically painful. I should say, so realistically human it is painful. Three fantastic books and I'm not sure I can forgive Dinah, or that I even like our main character.
But I'm gonna listen again

5 stars all around

I've put off the last book for so long because of time restrictions. I'm so glad I did it on audible. The reading and the story was amazing.

Good ending to a good trilogy

While the true strengths are in the first half of this last installment, this and the two books that came before it are wonderfully written and engaging. The narrator did a phenomenal job. While I won't spoil anything, there were some creative decisions made in the second half of the book that felt forced. And the twist towards the end was highly predictable. That being said, the writing is amazing. The author can paint a very vivid picture with her words and definitely made 3 dimensional characters throughout that all have their own distinct personalities. Wonderful read. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good retelling of a classic story.
