About this listen

Heroes aren’t born; they’re made. But so are villains.

Raine Campbell never knew she was special until her dormant magic unleashed to protect her friends.

But it couldn’t be contained or controlled.

Enter the School of Necessary Magic, where magical teens are taught to master their abilities and maybe learn some math.

During a forbidden trip into the massive underground city beneath the school - off limits to freshmen - Raine discovers druids are disappearing. And no one seems to care.

Refusing to stand by and ignore it like everyone else, she dives into an increasingly dangerous plot to rescue them before the balance the druids maintain tips into chaos.

But doing so requires breaking rules that could lead to her expulsion and threatens to end her dream of working as a witch for the FBI, following in the footsteps of her father and uncle.

Join Raine on an action-packed adventure of magic and mayhem.

After all, rules are just guidelines, right?

Say hello to old friends and meet the new freshman class at the School of Necessary Magic.

NOTE: While the series continues in the same world with some returning characters, it does stand alone. No prior experience necessary.

great start

It is hard to put a new spin on the academy theme. This book does it well.

I wanted to like it

This is one of my favorite plot lines and created by authors that I have liked their previous works, so I really wanted to like it.

Unfortunately, the story never came together for me. it seemed to be a well written formula rather than a story with a unifying plot. Maybe I fell asleep and missed things, but why were the only people concerned about the missing Druid a group of high-school freesfmen? What was the Dark Druid's motive? oh and then the Elders showed up? The same can be said about the other central events in the story, they could have been captivating if they weren't just the outline of the events.

Sorry,

On a plus side there was no swearing.

Strange

I was not a fan of the point of view. I kept getting confused that the main character wasn’t main POV.
I didn’t even finish it. I didn’t realize the main character was in middle school. I wouldn’t have bought this book if I had known.
Ok for kids.

Just not that good

Maybe the book read better, but the performer on audible mangled the threadbare story with some really bad cadence. Characters were uninteresting and boring.
