Great Book & Performance About A Fascinating Time

Although I must say that I am still hoping to find a book about this same period of American history that includes more information about contemporary culture and the events, news reports, meeting minutes, personal correspondence, etc., I was very pleased with this book.

William J. Cooper is a talented writer. the narration was clear and enjoyable. I learned a great deal, even though I am a long-time student of the Civil War and have read and own dozens of books along with more than 50 hours of documentaries on the subject (most of them about battles and biographies).

I cannot imagine what it was like to live during these times but I like to. And books like this one help ne do just that.
