Publisher's summary

A new mother is pursued by mysterious men in black. A misguided youth learns the dark secrets of the world from an elderly neighbor on Halloween night. A housewarming party where the guests never leave. A caretaker tends to his rusted relic of a god deep in the desert....

In his debut short story collection, Bram Stoker Award finalist Ronald Malfi mines the depths and depravities of the human condition, exploring the dark underside of religion, marriage, love, fear, regret, and hunger in a world that spins just slightly askew on its axis. Rich in atmosphere and character, Malfi's debut collection is not to be missed.

Great short stories!

I’ve always loved short horror stories, but I find that most of the time there are a few stories I end up skipping because they are so boring, not in this book! A few years ago I read The Narrows by Ronald Malfi and I really enjoyed it so when I saw a book of short stories I hoped I wouldn’t be disappointed. Thankfully I wasn’t. Each story is written very well, and the narrator does an amazing job reading them. There is one thing though, the last story, when it ended I found myself asking what I missed. It’s probably just me, but I didn’t get it, didn’t find the horror or the suspense in it, I even had to listen to it again and I still didn’t get it. But like the others it had my full attention, and really, it wasn’t that bad. Maybe you will understand it?

THIS IS REALLY REALLY BAD

I am currently struggling through this book. I just finished chapter 15 and thank God there are only 7 more chapters. Usually in a compilation of short stories, there are some dogs. This is the worst bunch of dogs I've ever read. And that's saying a lot . I love bad movies and boring books (F Scott), but so far with 15 chapters down and 7 to go. I haven't heard 1 story worth listening to. Even if it was free.
