Intriguiging - well-written, well performed. Delightful!

Sometimes you think you're walking into a very straightforward story - and discover you're not! The author distracts you with the ordinary details while much more curious plotlines are quietly forming right under your nose. There is a lot going on in this quiet little wooded cottage! A girl, a grandma, and a couple charming pets - and you naturally expect a bit of standard fairy tale magic but then ... it's as surprising as it is intreguing.

I listened to the audiobook version. I very much enjoyed the subtle characterization and emphasis the narrator puts into the souls in this performance bringing them to life. It's the little things that transport you into the wonder of good fiction.

Cleverly-placed, curious little descriptions hinting at much bigger ideas around the corner. And then there's a perspective-shfit. It's this brief glimpse into the Hagglethorn universe - and now I want to read the rest of the series!
