Publisher's summary

Sometimes we make sacrifices to help us get ahead, to allow us more time with family, or because we believe in the cause. And then there are sacrifices in which we have no say, "Isaac experiences" as in Genesis 22, thrust upon us without warning or survival instructions.

This audiobooks outlines eight transformational power principles that Gene and Carol Kent learned in the process of facing the news that forever changed their lives: Their 25-year-old son, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with an impeccable military record, shot and killed his wife's ex-husband. Jason Paul Kent, long recognized for his exemplary character, now walks a path no one could have predicted, and his family lives in the aftermath of a devastation most cannot imagine.

Carol's candid retelling of her emotional and spiritual agony will touch your heart. The principles the Kents learned in the process of surviving such unspeakable circumstances will bolster your faith, renew your hope, and challenge you to new levels of personal and spiritual commitment.

Listened Twice

I love this book and have listened to it twice. People tend to try and make you feel bad or like you've done something wrong when our children stray from what they have been taught. It helps me to realize I am not alone in my struggle with my child and God is yet faithful. It gives hope in the midst of the storm.

Thank You!

Thank you for sharing so openly and honestly the pain and hopelessness that is apart of laying down your Isaac. You have provided what I needed as I face another Christmas season without my firstborn son. The pain is so great and everyone has moved on so they don’t recognize or understand. God bless you as you continue the journey .

Inspiring, Encouraging Truth of Excruciating Circumstances

The best stories are the real ones but finding people to share the ones that are tough, especially because of their own mistakes and sin, or those they love is hard. It's not just because people want to hide them it the type of pain and anguish Carol Kent knows deadens and paralyzes many with depression and overwhelmingly more difficult day to day life circumstances that make processing and overcoming them all the more difficult. Carol's honest and raw retelling of her story will resonate with any parent or person who has experienced horrific life altering, dream shattering event that has forever changed them--and do so in a way to not avoid but feel the pain and look to the one who gives hope and joy! You'll be inspired to also lay down that which stands between you and full devotion to God. Thank you Carol!

Hope, Faithfulness, The Church

Carol has a great (ongoing) testimony of hope, faith, and how the body of Christ can (and should) serve and stand in the gap for eachother. Great read/listen. I did not like the 'background' music on some of the parts. It was unnecessary and distracting. It made it hard to hear her words.

Read it!

I was nervous to start reading this because life felt hard enough. I didn't want to be told to suck it up and be a better Christian. But that's not what Caroline Kent did. She felt every messy feeling right alongside me and affirmed the pain. Her story is so painful, but she shows us that God shows up.
