Publisher's summary

More than any other sports figure, Vince Lombardi transformed football into a metaphor for the American experience. The nine seasons during which he led the Green Bay Packers to five world championships is the most storied period in NFL history. Lombardi became a legend, a symbol to many of leadership, discipline, perseverance, and teamwork, and to others of an obsession with winning. Maraniss captures the myth and the man, football, God, and country in a thrilling biography that has become an American classic.

This year, on the fortieth anniversary of Vince Lombardi’s death, the immortal coach strides onto the Broadway stage in a new American play, Lombardi, based on Maraniss’s critically acclaimed book, written by Academy Award winner Eric Simonson.

Football History

It's an amazing account of a man's life. What the story doesn't get into in much detail is the cost of that single minded purposefulness. There is price for greatness. This is certainly a well done book that enjoyed thoroughly.

Vince Lombardi

Great book!!! Vince was far from perfect, as we all are, but he was a man that gave coaching his all to his team and players. Great men such as Coach Lombardi are few and far between. Reading this book reminds us that we are short lived and give all we can each day.

Long but fascinating

As an athlete, sports fan, and lover of motivational speakers, I really enjoyed this book about Vince Lombardi. It’s very long! But well written and interesting.
It made for a very fun month learning about the life of a great, yet flawed man, Vince Lombardi.
I listened during November and December, right in the thick of football season. David Maraniss is an excellent author, and Vince Lombardi‘s life and coaching is a great subject.

Great story, average audio performance

A classic well written biography of a fascinating, very accomplished leader. I'm glad the author didn't pull punches in the portrayal of Lombardi's personal life. For the life of me, I can't understand why audio narrators do not get phonetic spellings of key names. While I like the narrator's portrayal of Lombardi's accent, the mispronunciation of Paul Hornung's name throughout this audio book version is unacceptable and very distracting.

A Must Listen for Coaches and Packers fans

The complete story behind the legendary coach. I could not stop listening. I considered how I can put his many maxims to use on the field and in my own life. Run to win!
