The Earl of Wrexford possesses a brilliant scientific mind, but boredom and pride lead him to reckless behavior. He does not suffer fools gladly. So when pompous, pious Reverend Josiah Holworthy publicly condemns him for debauchery, Wrexford unsheathes his rapier-sharp wit and strikes back. As their war of words escalates, London's most popular satirical cartoonist, A. J. Quill, skewers them both.

A murdered opera singer. A duke drenched in her blood. For Bow Street Officer Hugh Marsden, the brutal killing is a straightforward case. Ever since his exile from polite society, the chance to arrest a high and mighty peer of the realm has never presented itself. Hugh won't snub the opportunity now. But Audrey Sinclair, the Duchess of Fournier, is certain her husband is wrongly accused, and she's determined to prove it to the arrogant Bow Street officer, even if she must employ her most peculiar ability—or perhaps curse—to guide her investigation. After all, a duchess can do as she pleases.

It's 1910, and Daniel Pitt is a reluctant lawyer who would prefer to follow in the footsteps of his detective father. When the biographer Russell Graves, who Daniel is helping defend, is sentenced to execution for the murder of his wife, Daniel's Pitt-family investigative instincts kick in, and he sets out to find the real killer. With only 21 days before Graves is to be executed, Daniel learns that Graves is writing a biography of Victor Narraway, the former head of Special Branch and a close friend of the Pitts. And the stories don't shed a positive light. Is it possible someone is framing Graves to keep him from writing the biography-maybe even someone Daniel knows in Special Branch? The only answer, it seems, lies in the dead woman's corpse.

London, September 1666. The Great Fire rages through the city, consuming everything in its path. Even the impregnable cathedral of St. Paul's is engulfed in flames and reduced to ruins. Among the crowds watching its destruction is James Marwood, son of a disgraced printer and reluctant government informer. In the aftermath of the fire, a semi-mummified body is discovered in the ashes of St. Paul's, in a tomb that should have been empty. And when Major Gabriel Forrester learns that he has inherited the massive Scottish Highlands title and estate of a distant relation, the last thing he wants to do is give up the intensity of the battlefield for the too-soft indulgences of noble life. In the aftermath of Germany's defeat in World War I and the failed November Revolution of 1918-19, the conservative government of Bavaria identified Jews with left-wing radicalism. Munich became a hotbed of right-wing extremism, with synagogues under attack and Jews physically assaulted in the streets. It was here that Adolf Hitler established the Nazi movement and developed his anti-Semitic ideas. Michael Brenner provides a gripping account of how Bavaria's capital city became the testing ground for Nazism and the Final Solution.

Plagues upon the Earth is a monumental history of humans and their germs. Weaving together a grand narrative of global history with insights from cutting-edge genetics, Kyle Harper explains why humanity’s uniquely dangerous disease pool is rooted deep in our evolutionary past, and why its growth is accelerated by technological progress. He shows that the story of disease is entangled with the history of slavery, colonialism, and capitalism, and reveals the enduring effects of historical plagues all around us, in patterns of wealth, health, power, and inequality.

The Lost History of Christianity will change how we understand Christian and world history. Leading religion scholar Philip Jenkins reveals a vast Christian world to the east of the Roman Empire and how the earliest, most influential churches of the East---those that had the closest link to Jesus and the early church---died. In this paradigm-shifting book, Jenkins recovers a lost history, showing how the center of Christianity for centuries used to be the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, extending as far as China.

Fabulous !
You'll start the series and will never look back. I actually binge on it, hoping Miss Harris will never stops writing. I love her aristocrat and central character Delvin Saint Cyr,and every one around him. Her writing is so fluid you glide through it, and Davina Porter, of course, is top narrator who brings each and every person alive to your ears.
Thank you so very much C.S. Harris !

interesting, with surprise twist
I did enjoy this, but found it a little hard to keep track of the villains. The henchmen's deaths seemed a little gratuitous, though there were plenty in the first books too. But overall. I thought it was a well plotted story and still think it would make a great Masterpiece series. Great character development.

A bit cumbersome but entertaining
This is the first I've listened to in the series. The author provided enough back story to give this installment context. It was interesting hearing about the manners and mores of 19th century England, although I'm not a historian so I cannot attest to historical accuracy. I did get a bit muddled with all the characters at the heart of the plot, all these men with their sons and wives. But the author did a good job of weaving storylines together. Perhaps if i had been reading a printed copy, i could have kept track better of who's who. The ending was satisfying and not melodramatic. Davina Porter is a consummate narrator. I would recommend this novel and I hope to listen to more by this author.

Best of the series so far!
Each book has improved upon the last, but they really must be read in order. Davina Porter is exceptional, as usual.

LOVE this series! !!!
I NEVER buy credits, but I did with this series just to hear more. The stories are tight, the unfolding plot book to book is salacious, the characters well "fleshed " out (Oh, I HATE his sister. ) Narration is superb.Greatly enjoying this.

Why?
No one will read my highly crafted reviews of Audible anyway. None have been posted, but maybe my ratings will serve. I'm tired of wasting my time.

Great mystery
Have really enjoyed the books in this series and love Davina Porter. Always look forward to the next book to find out what Lord Devlin and Tom get into
