Publisher's summary

A chance to start over...

The Spiritualist Grand Tournament has begun. Eryk Veiger is determined to win, not just so he can remove Grant Leucht from Kari’s and Fay’s lives for good, but also so he can request Kari’s freedom and allow Lin to walk in the sun without fear of being mistaken for a Demon Beast. He’s more determined than ever to prevent what happened in his past from happening again in his future.

Yet someone working in the shadows is determined to make sure Eryk doesn’t succeed, even if that means assassinating him under the cover of night.

A bit much

The intimate moments get to be a bit overly done but overall a good story

I highly recommend this series

there are currently 12 books in the series all of which are available in ebook form. this is the fourth book of the series to get the audio treatment. the narration team is from actors everywhere and I have never known them not to deliver a fantastic performance. this series I hope continues to receive the audio treatment. I look forward to the next volume to come out and audiobook form. I am also a fan of this author's other work. specifically man-made and American Kitsune. American Kitsune just got its first audiobook. if memory serves that's a three-person team. with that said well done all around and thank you for helping to bring this story to us the audible listeners.

Amazing

Please release the audiobooks in this series at a quicker pace. This is basically an all-star team with Varnell, Threet and Boucher. The book was well written and can’t wait for the next one.

Action!

After three volumes of buildup, we finally enter the spiritualist grand tournament with Eryk. If I’m being honest, some of the fights were underwhelming. We spent a lot of time on characters fighting that we didn’t know or care about. I guess that’s par for the course with tournament arcs but it still slowed down the pacing a fair bit.
Of course, it was a given that Eryk would win but I wasn’t really satisfied how he did it. He beats Grant halfway through which was fine since he was a joke character anyway. But then he introduces Grants cousin as the greater threat in the finals just for Eryk to destroy him too. It felt pretty pointless. I think it would have been way more impactful if Eryk fought Fay in the finals. A master vs student duel combined with the romantic tension between them would’ve made for a great final round. Fay would’ve definitely still lost but at least there would be better payoff to all their training together.
Also, this is a nitpick but Eryk should have definitely been disqualified or at least given a warning for interfering in Fays second fight. It was weird that none of the referees called him out for it.
Overall this was still an OK volume. I probably enjoyed the last one a bit more but at least the plot is really moving forward now. Onto the next installment!

The Epic Tournament

The long a we awaited tournament is finally here! I really enjoyed each match and the great fights. The MC continues to shock everyone with their growing strength. Harem elements definitely progress here, but thus has been my favorite book so far.
