Interesting

Interesting theme. A P.A. that knits and apparently that's her true calling, a talking one-eyed, cheeky cat and a P.I./newby witch who is the main character.
Add all these to the mix and stir well ... Now you have a sweet murder/mystery/witchy story. Quite entertaining.

"Magic"!

I love it. Great to hear a story without holding a book. I will continue the series.

Loved it!

This was just the fun and feisty book I needed to hear after a few heavy listens. I'm really looking forward to the rest of series.

It all began

Very cute story with just enough twists to keep you listening. The story makes you want to know more about her business and life. Thanks for the cute read.

Time Passer

This is one of those books that is okay, not great but not terrible. I think the biggest downfall was trying to fit so much "back-story" into the first book that it didn't hone in on one main plot. There were just too many things going on at once. I didn't know if the focus was her becoming a witch, solving the murders or where the "love story" fell in.

alright

The story was interesting but it was also overly complicated. The author was trying way to hard to build a world and it didn't come about naturally. I also felt that the narration was slightly forced.

Amusing Snarkfest

Jill Gooder is one of the many “I didn’t know I was a witch or that magic was real!” Protagonists in the cozy-paranormal-mystery genre. There are almost 50 of this series published, which makes one wonder whether they are written by a group or a machine …
Jill has the maturity of a 14 year old girl … and allows herself to be under the thumb of her adoptive sister, her inherited office secretary, her one-eyed cat Winky and others in her orbit. She suffers badly from undiagnosed OCD - she loves custard crème cookies, for example, but won’t eat them if they have been stored in a tin with other varieties.
The world build magic is interesting - spells are learned by memorizing a series of images, each spell has limitations, e.g. size of target, length of time it is active, how soon it can be repeated. There are levels of witches and higher level witches can, of course, do stronger, more lasting spells.
What saves this book, for me, is Winky the cat. He is *not* a Good Cat. He has creative ways of dominating Jill and creative ways to punish her. He out snarks everybody else in the book. He is just … refreshing.
