About this listen
Medieval England 1272 A.D.: Sir Eryx de Reyne has both Scots and English blood in him, and serves at Prudhoe Castle on the Scots border. And that's where his destiny lies.
Cleaning up after a border skirmish along the ancient Roman wall, he chases some Scots into the ruins of a Mile Castle, an old Roman fort. After a brief battle, he is about to leave the ruined castle when he notices loose stones and the reflection of something metal. Pulling away the stones, he discovers an ancient Roman gladius.
The legend begins.
Eryx is very fond of a local lady but she's also being heavily courted by his nemesis. When Eryx declares he is going to give the lady his newly-found sword, the competition heats up and what was once a semi-friend contest soon becomes a deadly happening.
Lady Frederica "Freddie" de Titouan is a lovely, gentle lady and she is quite thrilled when Eryx presents her the ancient sword. Two knights and one lady make recipe for disaster when the nemesis is able to blame Eryx for a terrible accident, attempting to sway Freddie against him.
With Dreams is the ultimate battle for the lady's hand in this tale of love, vengeance, and ultimately redemption.
Contains mature themes.

Story
Gen was a bard's apprentice, his nimble hands meant for the lute and his voice for a song. Then the half-mad and completely bored Shadan Khairn invaded Gen's village to winter there and start a war. He shoved a sword in Gen's hands and tormented his body, shaping a bard into a warrior to be killed for sport. As the days of torture pile up like the snow, Gen searches for death. But the day is at hand when the shattered shards of the world will knit together again, and the world's slain god will be reborn.

Story
Some of the parchment pages were the color of cream, thick and substantial, made to last many, many lifetimes. Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer's style of calligraphy had not been in common use for 300 years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history.

Finally, a heroine that has good common sense!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Kathryn Le Veque for giving us one of the few heroines to show basic and good common sense in all things concerning her life! I get so upset reading stories that show the female leads as being naive and unthinking or being unable to understand what is a wise decision as opposed to an unwise one. I get so upset reading stories that show the female as just plain stupid in all things. Yes, I know there has to be some setup for the hero to save her, but do they always have to be stupid?
Well, this story gives me the type of heroine I look for in a book. She was intelligent, perceptive, and clever enough to understand what was happening around her. She was swift to take action, astute, and brave in helping to save herself. She was NOT one of those heroines who made inconceivable bad choices concerning her life. Thank you! She was such a pleasure to read about.
Our hero was just what you expect and of course, he did not disappoint in action or deed. My biggest complaint with this one is it's short! I could have gotten into this one and wanted to know more about the item found in the Roman castle. I would have loved to know if they ever found out about the name and the background of this lady. I also wonder if this is a "reincarnation" type of thing with these two. It was great!

What was this...
Awful, a word I never thought I'd use to describe a Le Veque. Narration was top notch, the story was not. It was all just bluh, bluh, bluh to me. Just no.

Another hit by Kathryn LE Veque
Kathryn Le Veque is one of my most favorite story tellers. I’ve listened to her stories more than once. Each is full of suspense, excitement, wondering what comes next. She writes using an expansive vocabulary full of adjectives, adverbs, nouns many uncommon & rarely used. Her knowledge of medieval time & historical facts is intense.
