Publisher's summary

After being magically gifted with incredible luck, a boy discovers this gift just may be a curse when it comes to love, in this sweet romantic comedy by #1 New York Times-bestselling author Marissa Meyer.

Jude is determined to fly under the radar. He just wants to draw comics, host D&D night with his friends, work at his parents’ vinyl record store, and escape high school as unscathed as possible. That is, until the night he finds himself inexplicably gifted with a bout of supernatural good luck.

Suddenly, everything Jude has ever wanted is within reach. His art is being published. He helps his friend’s song become a finalist in a songwriting competition. And he wins a pair of coveted concert tickets, which he can use to ask out the popular girl he’s been crushing on since elementary school.

But how long can Jude’s good fortune last? And why does he find himself thinking about Ari, his best friend since forever? If Jude has been dreaming of the wrong girl this whole time, does that mean he's doomed to be unlucky in love forever?

With a sprinkle of magic, this sweet beachside romance is perfect for fans of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and Love & Gelato, as well as anyone who has ever swooned over Marissa Meyer’s beloved characters.

Critic reviews

"Fortune favors the nerd in this heartwarming novel by bestselling novelist Meyer. ...Wonderful, witty, and as sweet as spun sugar."Kirkus Reviews

"[A] breezy and fun romantic comedy ... Jude’s self-aware narration entreats to readers like a trusted confidante, and the chemistry between Jude and Ari is so palpable, it’s a wonder it took them so long to realize it."—Publishers Weekly

What an adorable and amazing book

This book was so cute and plot twisty and I loved it so much. I will not spoil but oh my word that was awesome. I love the nerdy elements to it and the idea of a guy main character. <333 10/10 would read a thousand times over.

A Cute Tale of Young Love and Magic!

This was such a cute story about a high-school boy navigating his way through young love, fitting in, and finding time for his DnD adventures with a bit of possibly real magic sprinkled in!

I loved the immersive effects used for the DnD campaign scenes. It was so fun to listen to; I could have listened to an entire book of just the campaign! The special sound effects and music really took those scenes to the next level.

My favorite quote has to be about the snail and his gift of a "tiny healing elixir." I audibly squealed over the cuteness.

Thank you for another captivating read Marissa Meyer!

loved it!

The characters were great and the story was cute. I loved D&D and the Howl's Moving Castle references.

So cute and fun!

I absolutely LOVED this book!! I’ve been a Marissa Meyer fan for a while and bought the audiobook as soon as it came out! I’ve listened and read it at least 4 times already, I can’t get over it! Ari’s song downpour had me crying every time she sang it! I love the friend to lovers trope and Marissa pulled it off perfectly! Jude is such an amazing character and this was an amazing sequel to Instant Karma!

Very cute sequel to instant karma

Very cute story, didn’t love it as much as the first one, but Marissa Meyer delivered yet again a great read with funny and well thought out characters.

Great interactions

Marissa is a fantastic writer. Character development, pop culture references, obscure references, and involving the reader keeps this fun story compelling to the end

Better towards the end

I LOVE Marissa Meyer’s books. This one, less so. I was looking forward to it and listened to Instant Karma right before purchasing With A Little Luck. The narrator change threw me off. Not because it’s - male narrator from Jude’s perspective, because the voices don’t match within the 2 books. Plus Rebecca Soler does a much better job. This narrator cannot do female voices. The beginning of the book had me rolling my eyes A LOT. By the end I was smiling though.

Weird and uncomfortable

Feels like the author either IS a 13-year old DnD geek who thinks their perfect and wishes they had a hot 17-year old singer chic as a girlfriend OR more likely the author is a mom who doesn’t *quite* understand DnD but wrote this book to tell their 15-year old how cool their mom thinks they are for playing DnD.
