A Flesh Tearers Novel

Having secured Baal, the Flesh Tearers receive timely reinforcements from the Indomitus Crusade. In that moment of hope, however, they realise they've not heard from their now isolated homeworld of Cretacia in far too long...

Listen to it because...

The Flesh Tearers are Sanguinius' wrath writ in flesh and blood. Spared extinction thanks to reinforcements from the Indomitus Crusade, they are the vanguard of the Angelic Host, securing Baal and its neighbouring worlds for the Great Angels and the Imperium. Yet in fulfilling their oath to the Lord of the Blood, they have isolated themselves from their homeworld, Cretacia – and there has been no word from the garrison left to hold it.

The story:

Ordered by Gabriel Seth to secure Cretacia, Chaplain Dumah and Apothecary Barachial set course for the Flesh Tearers' homeworld. But when they finally lay eyes on it once more, will they find a garrison standing firm, or a desolate wasteland scoured by their enemies? The Space Marines must walk in the footsteps of their chapter's mythic founder, and along the way they will learn what it means to embrace the Wrath of the Lost – or die trying.

It’s ok

It’s ok for a tearer novel. The look at primaris fighting the black rage and thirst was a interesting point of view. Though the book was kinda predictable

On the Bridge of the Vengeful Wankfest

As an avid Blood Angels and Flesh Tearers player I must say I was left wanting. It’s a solid enough story, but I think a third of this book is just the author wasting time describing the rage and violent thoughts of the FT’s. The two protagonists are likable enough. Only the most diehard fans of the Sons of Sanguinius should give this a listen. I will admit the fight scenes were beautifully detailed.

Fine enough

Love the Flesh Tearers and Blood Angels and the plot of this book is good on paper, but the main characters are not likeable and seem to go through the same co versatile over and over.

Well

Where do I even start well, I will say one thing. If you wanted me to hate this chapter you succeeded.

Not the best of 40k

I have read/listened to 50+ Warhammer 40k books just for context. This one is a middling entry at best within the overall library. Oversell of the 'fury' within the characters in place of any real development or complexity was disappointing. Repeated word choices, ie. 'Temerity', 'wrath', Et cetera, distracted rather than enhance the narrative arc.

Better than Darkness in the Blood…

I can’t help think these writers are forced to hype up all the Primaris “new hot” units.

Much like my title it was just name dropping new units like DitB. Also, as a Blood Angels player who has a FT army. How did all the new recruits just become over zealous and blood crazed in such a short time? Did RG say “ok Dante, put all the bad greyshields with Seth!” You mean to tell me these guys were on the up & up and boy scouts the entire time they were hanging around Big Blue, then in like 2yrs they become blood thirsty a-holes? I don’t think GW or any writer has properly explained how the new Primaris Recruits are getting along as new members of “The Blood”

Character wise, there are 3 characters worth a darn, Micah, Da’ron, and Barachiel’s assistant. No one else I enjoyed in the least except the OG FT’s with Gabriel in the stories beginning. Duma & Barachiel are both self serving butt-heads and the Librarian (in Phobos armor mind you) does next to nothing. The fact they “don’t like having to reinstate the Death Company” when every bit of Flesh Tearers information says they have a LARGE CONTINGENT of DC all the time, and they act shocked?!? And the fight at the end… if you’re new to the hobby and know nothing, you’ll probably enjoy it. If you know the lore and love any of the Sons of Sanguinius, toss this on while you paint but you’re gonna have an issue at parts.

It’s “fine” overall. Acting was good, story had some sweet parts. Little substance with unlikable characters.

drinking game

this is weird.
Spacemarines are supposedly elite super SOLDIERS, but Fleshtearers act like 10 year old children, with piss poor disciplin and coordination.
the story is a semi good idea, that makes no sense what so ever. Skip the first third of the book. It is just, nonsense, whining and blood.
If your really brave (or stupid) drink a shot every time they say blood. You will be in the hospital soon 😉

Pretty good

The flesh tearers are a tough chapter to like. The book does a pretty good job of showing the struggle with the black rage.

Solid…. But could have been better

Overall entertaining and fairly well performed. But as many have stated, they make the Flesh Tearers out to be Angrons finest.. Barely able to keep control of themselves. Woe betide the serf that folds the towels wrong… Seemed a bit much. But a decent and fun listen. Was expecting a bit more.

One of the better stories out of the BL of late

Enjoyed the delivery more than the story, but not a bad showing from the Black Library if somewhat transparent.
