Resumen del Editor

When Mr. Earnshaw brings a black-haired foundling child into his home on the Yorkshire moors, he little imagines the dramatic events which will follow. The passionate relationship between Cathy Earnshaw and the foundling, Heathcliff, is a story of love, hate, pity, and retribution, the effects of which reverberate throughout the succeeding generations.

Not a fan

So I’ve heard lots about this book for years. I’m not a fan though. I felt it was very childish.

Be Ye Not Afeared the Nithing, Knavish Blackguard

Heathcliff Haunts Not These Moors

Prithee doxies and cullies, bear ye with me whilst I delate goody gammer Nellie for spinnin' fudge respect ta that baseborn bastart hight Heathcliff. Forsooth, mayhap no truthy worsen bas-tart roamd these moors. The gammer Nellie's tale mazed even me. Bein' a moment's affright then, I verily says to Nellie to hither come and buss my breech.

Natheless, I shall forfend you as compeer, do not be affeard. In days of auld, tis said the lad Heathcliff, a recreant dandiprat, ran off when his feminal playfriend Cathy, who was wont to be froward, told gammer tafect that Heathcliff was a lil' lurdan lad she nevert marry. He were ware, as he lurked e'er in shadows. Heathcliff dreed this and ran off, only to 'turn afew years later rich whenst he says to Cathy, he says, she is a mean-minded, slavish brach for marrying a nilly poltroon.

Heathcliff may be one of the worst nithing knaves in thy encounters, Nay, the worst! The bastart rapscallion shook earth to see the corse an' crumpet of his lady coz, God rest hern soul.

Howbeit I indite you to come hither and con the book forn your self. Listen how he goes on bout his niece as she sets side Heathcliff's own flesh n blood:

"How she does stare! It’s odd what a savage feeling I have to anything that seems afraid of me! Had I been born where laws are less strict and tastes less dainty, I should treat myself to a slow vivisection of those two, as an evening’s amusement."

Torn tween 4 and 5. Atmospherically maybe the darkest mood and place novel in my reading history. Will give 5.

A different kind of classic.

I really enjoyed this book. The story is not hardly a romance, so those searching for it will probably not like this book. It is not a warm and fuzy feeling tale. The detestable characters in this book are what make it different from many other Brittish classics. It leads one to consider at length how a few specific moments can alter the course of the future, and determine the person we will become as adults.

The ending in my opinion gave good and appropriate closure for this book. I also recently watched the PBS film and was disappointed that they greatly altered Catherine's role and did not truly flesh out the magnitude of Heathcliff's disturbing behaviours. Overall, the book is a great and worthwhile tale.

Disfunctional Family of the first order

This is one of those books that I had to work at to complete; in the end however I am glad that I did. I did not like many of the characters and it was necessary to keep in mind that their lives were very limited, they did not meet many different people and did not travel far. The author demonstrates a great understanding of a strange mind.

Wuthering Heights

If your only familiarity with Wuthering Heights is from the 1939 movie, then be assured that you have only scratched the surface of this story. So rich in detail and character is this novel that it will leave you wondering why anyone ever attempted to make it into a movie. Oh, I agree that the film is entertaining unto itself, but it is merely the tip of the iceberg. Highly recommended.

The best recording of this classic work.

A lot of people have praised Janet McTeer in this recording, however I seem to be of the opposite opinion, in lauding the praises of David Timson instead. It was he who I found easiest to listen to, and who enveloped me more in the story and the characters. Janet McTeer I found more one-dimensional, and grating on the ear. That's not to say it was a bad performance, just that of the two, I know which I prefered, and which I would choose to listen to again.

The book, if you haven't read it before, is rather long, and encompasses multiple generations of the families involved, and can get a little confusing at times, I found I had to hit the recap button quite a lot, but it is worth sticking with it. It was after finishing the book that I watched a couple of the film/tv adaptations, and while they were good, with strong performances, there is so much that they couldn't cover that the reading of the original work is essential.

Overall I found this to be one of the best, most exciting works I have listened to on Audible, and would recommend it.

well what can I say but that of with held love

love that was with held from both ends ...was finally given a chance in time to blossom after life.

my favorite part is when Catherine said "whatecer our souls might be, he is more myself than I am" how cruel they were to love is really hard to not speak about but what is worst is that they denied themselves the love they deserved...sad I say it be
