THIS IS ONE HELL OF A STORY.

IT’S JUST NOT HERS TO TELL.

When failed writer June Hayward witnesses her rival Athena Liu die in a freak accident, she sees her opportunity… and takes it.

So what if it means stealing Athena’s final manuscript?

So what if it means ‘borrowing’ her identity?

And so what if the first lie is only the beginning…

Finally, June has the fame she always deserved. But someone is about to expose her…

What happens next is entirely everyone else's fault.

Promising in the beginning - but disappointing

There had been a lot of social media hype around the book so I chose to buy it on audible. It was so promising at the beginning but by midway had deteriorated into a long-winded, repetitive and delusional diatribe. The lead character is an unlikeable narcissist and her thought process flawed and unbelievable. Very disappointing

Satire that pokes fun at the publishing industry

Two wrongs don’t make a right obviously, but the internet is very bad at recognising this.

I needed a palate cleanser after all the thrillers I’ve been reading and the satire in here really seemed to hit the spot. Also funny that this won the Goodreads award it poked at!

So meta it’s meta of the meta by the meta

It’s pretty meta. Very engaging but loses the plot a little at the end. Performance is outstanding. Great variance in character voice while not sounding cartoonish or overly put on. Definitely worth a listen. If you know or have ever been curious about the world of publishing. Plus, it’s on the NYT best seller list which is super meta.

Can’t put down, great twisty plot

It’s like a mirror within a mirror. A great tale to keep you entertained, an unreliable narrator with a few neat plot twists. Good binge read.

Plot twist galore

Thoroughly enjoyed the writing style, plot twists and themes. Didn’t see that ending though, left so many possible conclusions!

Just, alright

Better than anything I could write but it felt very repetitive all the way through. I didn’t particularly like the narrators voice, a little harsh for the story.

Not for me

I just didn’t like the character and I’ll never think of pancakes the same.
Great insight into the publishing industry but overall just a negative story. No thank you. Not for me.

It is very engaging until half way through

I found the storyline very enticing but halfway through it became very repetitive and long winded.

The banal nature of the plot development and the extremely limited narcissistic and bullying lead character

I liked very little of this story. June is so limited. The characters are undeveloped. It’s nonsensical. The ending is meh. It’s too long and indulgent.
