Publisher's summary

What happens when we can’t joke about some of the most important stuff in life?

In a 2019 study, 40% of people reported censoring themselves out of fear that voicing their views would alienate them from the people they care about most. Those people should probably not read this book in public.

In You Can’t Joke About That, Kat Timpf shows why much of the way we talk about sensitive subjects is wrong. We’ve created all the wrong rules. We push ourselves into unnecessary conflicts when we should feel like we’re all in this together. When someone says “you can’t joke about that,” what they really mean is “this is a subject that makes people sad or angry.”

Hilariously and movingly, Timpf argues that those subjects are actually the most important to joke about. She shows us we can find healing through humor regarding things you probably don't want to bring up in polite conversation, like traumatic break-ups, cancer, being broke, Dave Chappelle, rape jokes, aging, ostomy bags, religion, body image, dead moms, religion, the lab leak theory, transgender swimmers, gushing wounds, campus censorship, and bad Christmas presents.

This book is Kat Timpf with her hair down, except since hers is mostly extensions, this book is Kat Timpf with her hair out. Listen to it because you want to get to know her better. Listen to it because it’s the best book on free speech and comedy in a generation. Listen to it because you want to laugh out loud… even at the kind of stuff we’re afraid to say out loud. Just listen to it, and you’ll be glad you did.

I wish I had a great joke about this book...

but my witicism supply chain has been depleted by age, cancer and chemo.
I enjoyed the audio book so much so that I might give Tyrus' just to compare.

Awesome Read

I loved the honesty. Laughter is the best. People who cancel others suck. Cheers to cats & dogs for their support.

Humor as a tool

Kat does a great job, explaining how even the most difficult of times can be viewed as an opportunity to be used as building experience, through humor. Humor is a very powerful tool, and can always be applied to just about any subject. Use it to keep yourself strong, Kat did, and expertly tells us how to.

I wanna be Kat Timpf when I grow up

Kat’s insight on pretty much any topic Gutfeld throws her way is the perfect mix of humor, logic, and wisdom; You Can’t Joke About That is no exception. Her willingness to call out BS, commitment to self-deprecation, and overall IDGAF attitude are incredibly disarming and endearing qualities that make her so likable and relatable!

Brilliantly thought provoking

I truly enjoyed listening to this title, especially as read by the author. The topics of laughter in the face of tragedy and what actually constitutes free speech gave me much to think about. This is a great perspective from a younger voice. I will definitely listen to this title again.

Very entertaining!

This is a well thought out, entertaining take on the state of public discourse in the US today. I literally couldn't put this down! It was like having a really interesting friend talk about the most pressing issue for us all, and by doing so, helping everyone chill! Kat's last chapter about police/law enforcement encounters is perfect and should be taught in schools every year for reiteration, from 4th grade through high school. We ALL need to hear this, I know this from personal experience.
