153. “We’re married. Why do I have to ask him for money?”

  • Summary

  • Allison is 36 and Dan, 37. They’re married with two kids living in a HCOL mountain town—a market variable that’s influenced them to sell her condo and supercharge their retirement investments with the profits. The condo is listed for sale, but Dan doesn’t trust her enough to combine their finances. Valuable Information

I absolutely love Ramit's approach to these different lifestyles. I've listened to all the 2024 episodes and I'm working through the past episodes but this one struck a note in me with the kids. I found it odd that they didn't want to take the kids out because, in their words, it was a PITA. This is the time they should be taking their kiddo's out so that they can learn how to behave in social situations. And $1.5k in groceries monthly is mind boggling with toddlers. I have a husband and an 8yo son and we have a max grocery budget of $800 (in tax hungry Illinois) and that includes our meal service subscriptions. That said, I highly recommend these podcasts. My husband and I find them highly valuable. We're currently reading Ramit's book together and completing the CSP. It has changed our lives and we're not even done with his process yet!
