22. Global Citizenship and the Minority Experience

  • Summary

  • For this last episode of Season 1, I am excited to have Dr. Jean Beaman on my podcast!  Jean and I went college together and like so many others, reconnected through Facebook.  I saw that she was a sociologist and was interested in her research on race, particularly in France.  She is an Associate Professor, Sociology at University of California, Santa Barbara, and she is the author of the book: Citizen Outsider: Children of North African Immigrants in France.   In our discussion, we talk about how she uses ethnography, which is a form of storytelling and investigative journalism in academic sociology, to help understand the intersection of race and identity.  You don't want to miss our deep conversation!

You can find Jean's book here: Citizen Outsider: Children of North African Immigrants in France.
