  • The 9-42 teaser episode.
    Apr 9 2020

'This seemed like a good idea at the time, only time will tell...'

Jason Hunt (Guitar Show UK Head Honcho & the reluctant podcaster) and long time industry cohort Ant Short (Shure Microphones for ages, but now owner of ashortstories) have started a podcast.

In this episode they discuss how they finally got around to getting this project off the ground, via the Costa at Donnington Services and a three-way bromance with guitarist Keith Scott.

    Enjoy.

  • 9-42 meets Phil X
    Apr 13 2020

The one with Phil X of The Drills and Bon Jovi.

We put Phil in a cloakroom at The Guitar Show with Ant.

He took this rather well, and went on to talk about life on the road, his musical & playing influences & Gibson Guitars.

...then he blew everyone's socks off on the Live Stage, to close this years show.

  • 9-42 meets Mike Exeter
    Apr 27 2020

The one where 9-42 meets Grammy Award winning Producer & Engineer Mike Exeter. Mike has worked with Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi, Judas Priest, Cradle of Filth & UB40, amongst many others.

We caught up with Mike at the Guitar Show back in early march, bundled him into a cloakroom and thrust a microphone in front of him.

Now he could have been a little perturbed by this, but being the kind & gentle soul that he is, he humoured us and shared an insight into his career and the artists he has worked with. He also talked about the effects his career had had on his mental well-being, and how he has learned to deal with that.

  • 9-42 meets Rob Chapman & Rabea Massaad
    May 4 2020

The one where 9-42 meets Rob Chapman & Rabea Massaad. The final interview(s) recorded in the 'Cloakroom Sessions' back at The Guitar Show earlier this year.

Rob is a guitarist, content creator and the founder and co-owner of Chapman Guitars. He is widely credited as being one of the first guitarists in the UK to establish himself on Youtube, initially with his own instructional videos and then with his collaboration with Lee Anderton. He is the lead singer and a guitarist for the band Dorje along with other projects Clockwork Wolf & Co and Monkey Lord.

Rabea is the lead guitarist for Dorje and also performs in the band Toska. He has a successful YouTube channel and is a designer for both Chapman Guitars & Victory Amplifiers.

We caught up with both and discussed the journeys that had brought them both to this point, and the people that had influenced them along the way.

  • 9-42 meets Ryan Roxie
    May 11 2020

The one where we had a long chat with Ryan Roxie.

Ryan is an American guitarist and singer/songwriter and is best known as a Solo Artist and for his guitar work with Alice Cooper and Slash's Snakepit.

We talked to Ryan about his musical journey, as well as living under lockdown in Sweden, his podcast In the Trenches and his System 12 Guitar Method - which he is launching via Kickstarter.

Oh and he also took part in our 9-42 lockdown quick fire question segment.

    What a guy.

  • 9-42 meets Bumblefoot
    May 18 2020

The one where 9-42 had a surreal evening with Bumblefoot.

Bumblefoot is lead singer and guitarist of the legendary progressive rock band Asia (with Geoff Downes, Carl Palmer and Billy Sherwood), and guitarist of progressive rock band Sons Of Apollo (with Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian, Billy Sheehan and Jeff Scott Soto.

Formerly lead guitarist of rock groups Art of Anarchy (2011 - 2017, including STP/Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland, Creed vocalist Scott Stapp and Disturbed bassist John Moyer) and Guns'n'Roses (2006 - 2014), Bumblefoot toured sold-out shows all over the world, headlining festivals with crowds up to 150,000. Bumblefoot's unique 'fretless guitar' can be heard throughout Guns N' Roses' 2008 Chinese Democracy album.

This was the first of our lockdown interviews, and although we were still finding our feet with the whole remote recording lark, we still managed to have a fairly manic conversation with the legend that is Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal.

We riffed on all manner of topics, including lockdown gigging, Ron's current projects and how he likes to write with the Sons Of Apollo project. Then we got onto the Rocky Horror Picture Show and it all got a little out of hand.

    Enjoy.

  • 9-42 meets Glen Matlock
    May 25 2020

The one where 9-42 chewed the fat with a Teenage Sex Pistol.

Where do you start when trying to sum up Glen's career. An original member of the Sex Pistols, he co-wrote most of the seminal first album, before leaving to form The Rich Kids with Midge Ure. He has also played with Primal Scream and the Faces, and is currently in The International Swingers with Clem Burke & Earl Slick.

So it was a real lockdown privilege to have a natter with Glen Matlock as he talked about the effect it was having on his working life and what it might mean for the future.

He also agreed to have a go at our five quick-fire question challenge, though he took it at his own pace. Legend.

  • 9-42 meets Earl Slick
    Jun 1 2020

The one where 9-42 meets Earl Slick.

Earl is a guitarist best known for his collaborations with David Bowie, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Robert Smith. He has also worked with other artists including John Waite, Tim Curry and the New York Dolls. He is currently in The International Swingers with Clem Burke & Glen Matlock...

...and that is how we managed to get an interview with him. As lockdown hit and commitments cancelled, Earl was left a stranded guest, resident in Glen's house in London.

We chatted too Earl about playing with David Bowie, then not playing with David Bowie and then playing with David Bowie again. We talked about playing on the biggest stages, guitar straps and painting Glen's living room.

    Class.
