• Building Bonds & Creating Trust Between Selves in Dissociative Systems
    Jul 30 2024

Drew & Garden System, a couple living with Dissociative Identity Disorder, share personal stories of how they helped all of their selves develop trust and compassion for each other. Building bonds between all selves helps bring about internal cooperation and internal peace. They also dive into more detail about their fictive selves and how those developed within their systems. This includes the formation of roles that the selves took on to ensure safety and functionality, and how those roles evolved over time, such as system leadership. NOTE: They also have carefully and mindfully included specific personal examples of how this might look for someone that has experienced mind control and/or ritual abuse towards the end of the episode.

  • What You Really Need to Know About Eating Disorders and Dissociative Identities: An Interview with Annie Goldsmith, RD, LDN
    Jul 23 2024

Drew & Garden System get real with Annie Goldsmith, sharing personal stories and uncovering the root causes of eating disorder behaviors and how they might show up in those living with dissociative identity disorder.

Annie Goldsmith, RD, LDN holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester in Brain and Cognitive Sciences and attended Winthrop University for her graduate coursework in human nutrition. Her educational and professional trajectory has always been guided by a strong curiosity about the ways our biology and psychology interact to inform our human experience. Annie worked in neuroscience research labs at New York University and Davidson College before pursuing a career in nutrition. She has experience treating eating disorders at the PHP, IOP, and outpatient levels of care. She opened her outpatient group practice, Second Breakfast Nutrition, in 2015.

Annie’s practice is rooted in a foundational belief in the inherent worthiness of all bodies. She centers weight inclusive, social justice oriented, and trauma informed frameworks in her approach to eating disorder care and recovery. Annie became interested in somatically and polyvagal-informed approaches to nutrition therapy in 2018 when she began training with the Embodied Recovery Institute, where she now provides training as part of the faculty. Annie has presented on the intersection of eating disorders and dissociation at the ISSTD World Conference, as well as the Healing Together conference. Annie is passionate about working with clients from a “bottom up” approach, centering and supporting the wisdom of the body and its innate capacity for healing.

You can visit Annie's website here at Second Breakfast Nutrition.

Drew & Garden System have a lively discussion with Ocean about the use of Internal Family Systems, particularly with Dissociative Identity Disorder. Come learn all about the special considerations clinicians need to keep in mind and implement when they choose to use IFS as an intervention with their DID clients.

  • Shhh! Are You Listening to All of Yous? Enhancing Internal Communication Through Listening with Dissociative Identity Disorder
    Jul 2 2024

Drew & Garden System talk about listening (ironic we know!) instead of just trying to talk to parts. Remember that it’s not just “talking” you’re listening for, because not all parts communicate with words or by talking. Sometimes communication is thoughts we notice or pictures we see internally. Being quiet can feel uncomfortable because one often becomes aware of memories and feelings that parts were keeping tucked away. Validating and accepting parts’ feelings and letting your selves express emotions is discussed. Also discussed is parts that still may be stuck in trauma time. We give several personal examples of how to get these parts up to speed on daily life and the present. We also touch on navigating parts in a system having different partner preferences, different and opposing sexual orientations, and different gender identities. Having a system of parts becomes one giant balancing act when you start listening and incorporating everyone’s needs, wants and wishes.
