    Paulo Machado was born and raised in Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal. He emigrated to the United States in 1989 at the age of 12 with his family. Today Paulo works full time as a Health & Safety Manager for Cemex, one of the largest cement producing companies in the world. Paulo is also the proud owner of Paulo Machado Photography & Video. A small photo and video business that provides both photo and video services locally. One of Paulo's hobbies is to carve pumpkins. He owns a YouTube channel with nearly 8000 subscribers. In this YouTube channel he shows how he carves his wonderful pumpkins. Paulo also has appeared in Good Day Sacramento several times and he carves live at pumpkin patches for people to see his craft.

    Tsunamiz is the stage name of Bruno Sobral, a Portuguese musician, singer-songwriter and producer known for his fusion of various musical genres ranging from alternative rock to electronic music. Following the DIY ethic, the musician composes and produces his music on his own, having released independently the following albums: “Evil Live” (2015), “Whoreporate Censorshit” (2017), “New Birth Guerrilla” (2019) and “Afterbirth Afterparty”(2020).

    During live performances, Tsunamiz often sings and plays electric guitar over his instrumentals and beats. Lyrically, the artist incorporates a range of personal, political, social, philosophical and cultural references. Tsunamiz is proving to be one of the most original and promising Portuguese artists to emerge of the underground scene.

  • Episode 47 - Diniz Borges

    Diniz Borges was born in Praia da Vitória. Terceira, Acores. At the age of 10 emigrated with his family to the United States. Holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in literary studies from Chapman University, and a Masters in the Humanities from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Taught Portuguese Language and Culture at Tulare Union High School for 22 years, where he was chair for the World Languages Department for 12 years. Also taught Portuguese at the College of the Sequoias for 20 years. Was selected Outstanding California World Language teacher in 2017, the first time and only time thus far that the California Language Teacher Association selected a Portuguese language teacher to receive this award. Presently is adjunct faculty at the California State University Fresno where he directs the Portuguese beyond Borders institute, the Azorean Diaspora Center and hosts the Portuguese-American Hour daily radio show. Has been involved in the Portuguese community since the age of 17, when he started in Portuguese radio, and has served many organizations at the local, state, and national level, including directing and hosting for 29 years a television show in Portuguese on the Catholic Station, KNXT channel 49 in Fresno: Os Portugueses no Vale.

    Has published 10 books in Portuguese and translated and published fiction, non-fiction, and poetry from Portuguese to English.

    Moved to the United States at 12 years old where he completed his schooling, including college.

    Alcides has made music his career with over a dozen CDs recorded with his own music and lyrics. Alcides Machado continues to in the music industry as a performer, producer and promoter.

    Besides music, Alcides has dedicated most of his time to his foundation Bom Samaritano in Hilmar, California as an outreach director and counselor. Soon he will be opening a branch of his services in Azores.
