In this episode of Art of Purpose, Kenny talks with Juan Navarro, a renowned local artist, muralist, business owner, and community leader who is at the forefront of the arts and innovation renaissance in Riverside, CA.

Juan shares how he was able to craft the life that he wanted, pursuing his passion in the arts, and at the same time creating a space for his community to thrive. His large murals and public works can be seen all throughout Riverside – the Eastside in particular. His studio, “The Eastside Arthouse” is a powerful communal studio that acts as a landing spot and platform for so many young up-and-coming artists in Riverside; and his drive and vision have made him the artist-in-residence for the prestigious Riverside Art Museum (also known as, “The Cheech”), and recently led him to the White House as a National Medal recipient alongside the Riverside Art Museum for their Library and Museum Service.

Marissa is an immigration attorney, law school professor, and Director and Co-Founder of the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic (LIJC), which is now one of the top immigration clinics in the country. Marissa built LIJC while she was in law school in response to an unmet need for free immigration legal services on the Eastside of Los Angeles. Ever since she was young, Marissa has always had a heart of service.Marissa also shares what it was like being a first-generation student, her years studying at USC, and the humbling experience she had in law school, which shaped her as an attorney.
