Ask Father Josh (Your Catholic Question and Answer Podcast)

By: Ascension
  • Summary

  • Ask Fr. Josh is the podcast where I hear you out and do my best to help you navigate the tricky times in life when our Catholic Faith doesn’t give you an easy “fill-in-the blank” answer. On this show, we’ll listen to one another, problem solve together, and ultimately entrust everything to our Lord. If this is your first time tuning in, here’s how the show goes: Each episode, I'll address three to four of your questions. I’ll cover everything from Catholic teaching to moral dilemmas to relationship advice. I'm not perfect, and I can’t guarantee that my advice is going to make things easy, but I'll do my best to share what I've learned during my time as a priest, pastor, and friend. • Why Is God Referred to as a "He"?
    Jun 27 2024
Hi Father Josh! I was introduced to your podcast a few months ago and I love everything that you do! Your spontaneous singing makes me laugh out loud and your straightforward, digestible answers to Catholic questions have helped me grow very much in my faith. I apologize if this question has been asked before since I’ve only heard a few episodes, but it’s something that’s been a stumbling block for me in the past. I was wondering what the Church’s teaching is on God always having a male pronoun and being described/depicted as an (often old, white) man. I know it is very complicated and tied up with the human understanding of divinity, biblical phrasing, and so much more, but maybe you can clarify a bit on how God is always described as a man. I was also wondering if and how a Catholic should respond when people, jokingly or not, call God a woman or change His supposed gender in some way. Thanks so much and love the work you’re doing! -Anonymous Text “askfrjosh” to 33-777 to subscribe to Fr. • Should Parents Name Their Children After a Saint?
    Jun 20 2024
Naming Children Hey Fr. Josh! I have so loved listening to your podcast and find so much fruit from it. I’m currently 6 months pregnant with my first baby and having grown up Southern Baptist and converting in college, Catholic Baptism is still a bit mysterious to me. As my husband and I prepare to Welcome our small human to the world and the Church, how should we discern their patron Saint? I have a few ideas, but since this is my first I’m honestly not sure. Her name will be Sarah Elizabeth, and while I know these are both Saints of the Bible, I’m not sure if either is the right name to baptize her with (or honestly what that truly means). I look forward to hearing from you every week! Keep blessing souls. -Anonymous Text “askfrjosh” to 33-777 to subscribe to Fr. A man of the world

I like that he doesn't sugar coat things to protect feelings, but he also doesn't ever set out to hurt anyone's feelings. He offers advice that you would expect from a loving but respectable relative.

Bonus: He randomly breaks into 90's songs and regularly forgets the words. It's a good way to break things up with a chuckle.

Informative! Honest! Encouraging!

I can't say enough about this wonderful and truley "called" servent of God! He is a good sharpered. What a breath of fresh air! Father Josh Johnson gives hope to those who may have decided they could never be good enough to become a saint. He explains in the most honest and down-to-Earth way, why there is hope in abundance, how to assess your day to day life, see what changes you need to make, how you need to make them, and why they are improtant. He also tells us what we're doing right and shows us why and how our actions inspire others.
I love this show!!!
