  • Senator Hanson calls for ‘Welcome To Country’ ban
    Sep 17 2024

Mike is joined by Pauline Hanson, Senator for Queensland and leader of One Nation, who has called for an end to 'Welcome to Country' ceremonies after a controversial version was performed by Aboriginal Elder Brendan Kerin at the AFL semi-final between GWS and the Brisbane Lions.

Kerin explained that the ceremony welcomes visitors to the land, not to Australia, and highlighted its long history, saying it has been conducted "for 250,000 years-plus" and "BC, Before Cook."

Senator Hanson responded by calling the ceremonies “racially divisive” in a post to her 135,000 followers on X.

  • Is violence the new US political norm?
    Sep 17 2024

From the storming of Capitol Hill to two assassination attempts, and a nation irrevocably divided, is this the new normal of US politics?

This year’s US Election was always going to be hotly contested, but it’s become violent, volatile and unpredictable. What we are seeing is typical of a conflict cycle: when differences of opinion and power dynamics turn personal, things escalate, people take sides and fear overwhelms rational decision-making.

But have we passed the point of agreeing to disagree?

Mike is joined by Conflict Strategist and Mediator, Sarah Blake, who says, “When people lose hope, they often feel like violence is their only choice and my guess is that many people are scared, whatever side of politics they sit on.”

Sarah shares her insights into how we can turn down the heat, what lessons we can learn, and explores why the notion of winners and losers isn’t going to serve a nation.

  • Benefits of finding a hobby during tough challenges
    Sep 17 2024

Mike is joined by Elizabeth Jane, respected artist and best-selling author of Free and First - Unlocking Your Ultimate Life, about the often-overlooked benefits of hobbies and their role in helping to reduce stress and achieve a balanced and fulfilling life - in the face of financial or emotional challenges.

According to Ms Jane, integrating hobbies into daily routines can significantly boost mental health, creativity and personal growth - as well as reduce stress.

She explains that hobbies are excellent for overall health and well-being, particularly in helping people manage stress, especially during times of financial pressure.

They provide a way to unwind and de-stress, and are also a great way for couples to spend quality time together.

During her own challenging divorce, Elizabeth turned to hobbies, which played a key role in helping her cope and move forward.

“Hobbies are not just pastimes; they are essential for enriching our lives and enhancing our overall well-being,” says Ms Jane.
