  • Avenue Red Live Session #008 - Maxxitrax @ Affinity @ Eastern Bloc, Manchester, UK (19-07-2024)
    Sep 20 2024
Avenue Red turned up to Affinity at Eastern Bloc Records in Manchester's Northern Quarter back on the 17th July 2024... what a night! Event founder Max Howard AKA Maxxitrax had just kicked off a delightfully enchanting warm-up set and our ever-trusty recorder was plugged into the mixer, soundchecked and activated as quickly as possible... sadly the first few very dazzling and trippy records were missed from the recording, but what was captured 'till the end of his set was just beautiful. Max is clearly a selector's selector with top drawer technical skills. Proper solid intro vibes for a vibrant, hot summers evening session on Stevenson Square, which also later featured Tribe, Damo B and DJ Mindbender. And finally... here it is! "This is a recording of my opening set from my last Affinity party held at Eastern Bloc. I wanted to use the opportunity to play records that I wouldn't get to play in a peak time or closing slot that I will usually play in. I had picked some records out that fit this narrative but turned up without a game plan. Luckily I managed to work things out so that I could play some soul tracks to start out with and then build tension up gradually. I really enjoyed the process, hopefully the listeners will enjoy it too. Tracks from the likes of Sade, Pure Silk, Manual, The Stone Roses, Rennie Foster, Autechre - and labels such as Subject Detroit, Novamute, Peacefrog, Tresor..." • Avenue Red Podcast #236 - Verdant Recordings
    Sep 17 2024
Andy Green AKA Verdant Recordings is back on Avenue Red Podcast with a nice, eclectic Indian summer mix comprised of 2.5 hours of wayward, grooving house & techno delights. "I often hit record when settling in for a session just in case it turns out to be a keeper. The mix presented here is one of those recent efforts put together on a warm July Monday night with no real purpose other than to enjoy a mix and some great music. Mostly records & few files on the CDJs, some new, some old and one or two unreleased oddities. I thought the Avenue Red community would appreciate a listen so I passed it over to Alec who kindly obliged. Disclaimer: I have nothing to promote... this is the true underground." • Avenue Red Live Session #007 - Reedale Rise @50arc/Ornate @ Faith In Strangers, Margate (06-04-2024)
    Sep 3 2024
Avenue Red were grateful to ourselves for having made the impeccable choice to rock up in Margate on the extreme southeast edge of England to witness a phenomenal event back in April. Masterclass sets from all who played there, with this live set from Reedale Rise (real name Simon Keat) being one of the highlights to shine on this wonderful soundsystem in a visually stunning venue. It was ace to also unexpectedly bump into some key agents of organised UK underworld deepness, including Miles Atmospheric of Atmospheric Existence Recordings, Bovill of cult label Meanwhile and many others! Quality > quantity. Keep the faith and enjoy the ride, the tide and the vibes inside! 🌊🌊🌊 "This set was recorded directly from my live performance at Faith In Strangers, Margate earlier this year for Ornate Music and 50arc. The venue is fantastic with a beautifully tuned sound system, views over the sea, and lovely hospitable staff. The event was a chance for me to catch up with people I'd not seen since before the pandemic and put some faces to online names, including Avenue Red's very own Alec. My live set has changed a lot over the years and the current evolution is all unreleased house and techno tracks. The music I play live has moved in this direction simply because it's more relevant to the dancefloor and more fun to perform to a crowd than some of my deeper electro tracks. Gear-wise, I've added a Roland TR8S drum machine to Ableton, which has allowed me more opportunity to improvise and react spontaneously. Listening back, I'm happy with how the set sounds and hope it resonates with people. Shouts to James Ornate, Damo B, and the 50arc crew for letting me play, and to Alec for both attending the event and hosting my set." • Avenue Red Podcast #235 - Tomas Bexton
    Aug 7 2024
We welcome the second coming of Tomas Bexton, a veteran crate digger and deep house & techno specialist from Maidstone in Kent, England. This is yet another vinyl-only session from a true master, hot on the heels of his debut for us in December last year as part of the Avenue Red Is 10... mini series (link below). Now, let's just quickly make an observation - Tomas knows how to select and mix. There ain't no sync button, for he is the sync button. More black gold bullion from his magnificent and broad record collection heaped onto the Avenue Red deep summer house vibes 2024 bonfire! Hit it crew. "Very honoured to be invited for a second run with the unstoppable Avenue Red portfolio of talent! I think some spring & summer feelings were in the air with this one as once again, deep and jazzy house rule the way for the majority of the mix. I did want to change the direction at the end though with a tiny sprinkle of dub techno or the like. Featuring tracks from Alton Miller, DJ Q, Derrick Carter, Altone, Juniper and others - I hope you enjoy this vinyl-only mix... big love to the global house family! PS. The pic is taken from an avenue round the corner right where I live in Maidstone. And strangely, everything looks red today!" • Avenue Red Podcast #234 - Alastair Kelly
    Jul 26 2024
Lempuyang Records captain Alastair Kelly is back on the Avenue Red Podcast with his 4th mix contribution for us. Based on the Isle of Wight in the south of England, here he has cast a perfect sonic summer treat across the waters of The Solent for the deep, murky, trippy house heads adrift out there! Features many of our favourite artists and labels from the golden era, as well as some newer inclusions but we are saying slooow, deeeep house and techno, groovy swinging instrumental hip-hop & trip-hop etc. to finish. Serve yourself a cold one, light up a strong one, inhale and observe the magic unfold in the haze. "Lempuyang boss Alastair swings by to inject some doozy warmth into your so-far-shit summer. Expect deepness, pitched right down. Pairs nicely with a minimum of 8 margeritas and an enchilada with an unnecessary number of jalapeños." • Avenue Red Podcast #233 - Kári Guðmundsson
    Jul 18 2024
Enter Kári Guðmundsson AKA Hidden People. Another Avenue Red debut mix, another Íslendingar (Icelander) to follow the 6 previous fellow cold-worlders we have featured (Exos, OHM, COLD, Octal Industries, Waage, Álfbeat). This session is an absolute bloody riot, with a selection that is very diverse and so creatively worked in the mix 'n' blend. This is the only mix Avenue Red will ever feature that contains a Barbie sample... deal with it - we had to (it works, you'll see). It's just lots and lots of fun this one! Read on. "Heyo, so I'm really bad at writing text in general. But I can send some links (see below). I run the label Nonyobiz Records. My old alias was Hypno. Recently I have been working on releases on Iceland labels Móatún 7 and Intellitronic Bubble under various guises. But essentially I have been producing music for about 15-20 years, almost exclusively in Ableton Live and various hardware. Most recently I have been digging my heels into the modular world. My current techno alias/project is Hidden People for the pure techno side of things. DJ Allskynz is for the rest like breakbeat, ambient, house etc. I really appreciate Avenue Red putting the mix on since I really don't work a lot on the PR side of things (and I should lol!). Again, appreciated. It was a fun time making this mix. I actually thought it was only an hour in and then when I checked it was going two... so yeah, much fun for sure. Hope the wider Avenue Red crew dig it! ;)" Kári Guðmundsson, July 2024 https://soundcloud.com/nonyobiz-records https://linktr.ee/nonyobiz_records https://nonyobizrecords.bandcamp.com https://www.discogs.com/label/2429866-Nonyobiz-Records https://www.discogs.com/artist/10100482-K%C3%A1ri-Gu%C3%B0mundsson-2 https://www.discogs.com/artist/1435842-Hidden-People https://www.discogs.com/artist/6769790-DJ-Allskynz

  • Avenue Red Podcast #232 - Wilson Logan
    Jun 28 2024
Wilson Logan of Quadrant Soundscape / Dub Explorations is back once again to give the Avenue Red crew a fresh batch of sun-drenched deep house goodness. "Thanks to Alec once again for giving me space on the incredible Avenue Red platform. For this mix I just wanted to play a bunch of tracks that I had been feeling recently. As the longer days are here and we finally have some sunshiiiine in Manchester I wanted to harness the power of that big light in the sky and put out a dose of deepness with some summer time vibes. Nothing too fancy in here just a stack of stuff I really enjoy, sequenced up and ready to be served with an ice cold drink. Cheers! 🍻" Wilson Logan, June 2024 https://soundcloud.com/quadrantsoundscape See Also: https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-200-5-quadrant-soundscape https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-181-quadrant-soundscape

  • Avenue Red Podcast #231 - Ezy Fischel B2B N'djinn
    Jun 21 2024
Fresh heat incoming to Avenue Red from Ezy Fischel B2B N'djinn, a duo from Berlin whose selections are so rich, sweet, deep and fulfilling — not to mention the ridiculously silky, imperceptible transitions — it is at times difficult to take it in and process it in your mind. We are hereby served an eclectic platter of perfect summer solstice vibes. Finest vinyl-only ingredients of house, techno, electro, IDM — it's all there with a red candied cherry on top. Do not sleep on this 2.5 hour fireball of a set!! "We set our aims on a b2b-mix what feels like ages ago, and in relative terms it is, because it was during winter '20/'21 that we reconnected (being former colleagues at a record shop) and started doing sessions. We always had a good sense of where the other one is, emotionally and musically, so it's been a wholesome journey exploring our collections in tandem. There are numerous overlaps regarding which artists and labels we both admire, but surprisingly enough we own very few of the same singles and albums. Oftentimes when playing we discover lacunae in discographies we otherwise thought we knew, scrambling to note down an identifier, or, conversely, one of us simply starts nodding — a gesture every music head recognises — when realising exactly what record the other is bringing into the mix... ah, yes, many are the prized-but-not-necessarily-pricey tunes we've shared in ecstatic and all kinds of altered states! Still, we've been sitting on many a recording without letting loose. After a good three years, now, it's about time we share a moment of that local synergy; fuelled by energy derived from all them creators, the initiators and innovators and elevators, the rebels and renegades of machine funk."
