  • Postpartum Depression and Feeling Blindsided with Overwhelm in Postpartum with Marissa Zwetow S7 E39
    Oct 16 2024

I was blindsided with the overwhelm and lack of enjoyment when I became a mother.

I had heard about postpartum depression, but didn’t hear anyone really be candid about how hard it is or unenjoyable outside of a mental health or postpartum depression context, which understandably would be scary and vulnerable to share.

I knew that the validation I so desperately sought out was missing in postpartum conversations and I had to give voice to what I went through and help another person on a similar journey through my private therapy and coaching practice as a licensed therapist and by writing a book about my postpartum journey and research. https://a.co/d/0WzBJet

  • Research & Book on Maternal Mental Health and Fetal Development - Dr. Dawn Kingston S7 E37
    Oct 2 2024

World-renowned researcher Dr. Dawn Kingston shares new insights regarding the impact of a mother's mental health on fetal development in her upcoming U.S. book release, Your Brain on Pregnancy (September 17, 2024). Within it, she leverages her over 25 years of expertise (including as a NICU nurse) to share groundbreaking insights at the intersection of maternal mental health and fetal development. The book is an enlightening and practical guidebook for mothers to help them navigate mental health challenges during and after pregnancy.

A timely topic, in 2023, the White House, under the advisement of the Centre for Disease Control and the American Psychiatric Association, issued a report stating that the United States faces alarmingly high rates of perinatal mental health conditions, such as prenatal & postpartum depression and anxiety, and tragically, these preventable conditions are the leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths in the country.

Dr. Kingston is an excellent interview subject to discuss the latest scientific understanding of how maternal mental health affects fetal development. She is available for an interview and print ARCs are available upon request. Please let me know if I can send one your way.

Dawn is a professional doctor and a university-level educator, and an author
