  • As I try to educate people on what bhangra is, or isn't, I often face this barrier, a symptom of closed mindedness. People think bhangra, is a thing. Meaning they think it is one very specific label. Something everyone agrees on. I am here to set that record straight. Bhangra, and also the term dance, are not a thing. The reason you should listen, or watch, this, is to broaden your mind, so that the next time someone asks you, "what is bhangra?", instead of saying something misinformed like "it's a dance style from India". You can say, something more like "well if I ask you, what is dance, do you have a single answer?" To which they will hopefully say no. You can then tell them, "if dance is not one thing, you'll understand why bhangra is also, not one thing".
