• 3 Keys to Clinical Success
    May 27 2024

Do you want to know three keys to clinical success and what you can do to improve in each of these areas?

If so, start by asking yourself these questions:

    • How would you rate your anatomy knowledge?
    • How comfortable are you naming the structures under your hands while in the clinic?
    • Can you easily palpate a structure if one is named?

In today’s episode, Lynn discusses three keys to becoming a better clinician. Listen in to learn practical suggestions on how to improve in these areas and develop the skills that will positively impact your success with your clients.

The first key is the intention you have when working on your client. Do you approach the session with a clean slate? Are you grounded? Is being a loving presence important? A loving connection to the body can create great healing. Focusing on being present for the client has a positive impact.

The second key is anatomy, anatomy, anatomy! You need to know what you are touching and how it relates to the rest of the body. No body part works in isolation. Understanding the position of the bones and their movements in relationship to the organs, nerves, blood vessels and muscles is essential to creating effective change. It is not uncommon that the organs and bony structures are affecting the muscles of the pelvic floor. Knowing how to mobilize them is essential.

The third key is your palpation skills. When you put your hands on the body can you name the structures under your hands? This is an important skill to know. Do you know what directions those structures should be able to move in? If something is not moving or feels stuck, how can you make a change to the structure that will affect the area? These are all questions we can ask ourselves when treating a client that will give us better insight into what is going on in the body.

Do you want to practice your skills and get feedback on your knowledge and technique? If so, consider attending a Live Course with Lynn Schulte. Live courses give you lots of opportunity to practice in a small group setting, so you can get additional feedback on your techniques and feel the work on multiple bodies, including your own. Spots are filling up fast for this summer. If you are learning how to palpate the body or want more feedback on your palpation skills, consider taking the Holistic Treatment of the Pregnant Body Live Course first as we spend more time on palpation in this course.

  • Listening to the Body
    May 20 2024

Have you had clients who come in and you are not sure where to start? Have you heard of the osteopathic concept of listening to the body?

In today’s episode, Lynn shares a case study about a client who came to see her after a fall. Listen in to hear what I found and how I helped her. The client felt like her entire left side was frozen and complained of left-sided neck and shoulder pain.

The client had already undergone a series of tests to find the root of her pain, but all the tests showed that nothing was physically wrong. Lynn went through her assessment and used general listening, an osteopathic technique, to determine where to best support the client that day. She treated the areas that came up from this technique, and the client left the session feeling great.

Two days later, the client had another fall, and called for another appointment. When she came back for her second visit, Lynn listened to the body, again, and discovered that the root of the issue was not just a physical issue. There was a limiting belief at play that they addressed in session to help better support this client in her overall well-being.

Lynn primarily works with the pregnant and postpartum populations; however, the work she teaches in her classes is applicable to all populations. To learn more, check out her full course list at the Institute for Birth Healing or check out her blog for additional free resources.

  • The Wild Series
    May 13 2024

Do you have a list of books you refer to your clients? If so, Lynn has a series she recommends you add to your must-read list for all mothers!

In today’s podcast, Lynn speaks with Physical Therapist, author and founder of Holistic Pelvic Care, Tami Lynn Kent as she releases an updated version of her Wild Mothering book.

Tami has been working in women’s health for over 25 years and has a 3 book “Wild” series that she wrote to help connect mothers with the wisdom and the energy in their womb and pelvic space: Wild Feminine, Wild Mother (formerly Mothering from Your Center) and Wild Creative. These books explore the connection between the feminine centers where information is received and processed and how when women are taught to read this information, they can open themselves up to the complete energetics of the body.

Tami’s second book, Wild Mothering, has been released as a second addition with a new chapter that is written from an older mother’s perspective as well as the original chapters that were written from the perspective of a new mother.

Mothering can be a soul crushing journey at times, but Tami Lynn Kent provides some great resources in her Wild Series that can support moms and connect them with their own inner wisdom. This podcast is a reminder for all pelvic health therapists that the pelvic bowl contains amazing medicine. We need to learn to listen to and follow this wisdom.

  • A Day in the Clinic
    May 6 2024

Have you ever wondered what a day in the clinic is like for other practitioners? What do they do with their clients that may be something you want to try in your own practice?

In today’s episode, Lynn shares her day in the clinic and her treatment of six different clients. Each person required different treatment ranging from sacral flexion to release of scar tissue and nervous system regulation.

On any given day, practitioners are presented with a variety of conditions and have to choose the best treatment options possible. Sometimes we don’t get it perfect on the first try, and other times, the techniques we use seem to work like magic.

Listen in to learn about Lynn’s 6 sessions, what unique issues each client presented with, and what treatment path Lynn chose to help decrease the presenting complaints.

  • Assessing the Pregnant Body
    Apr 29 2024

Do you see clients during pregnancy even if they are not having pain? Do you assess their pelvic floor muscle tightness and their ability to lengthen/push?

In today’s podcast Lynn talks about a postpartum client she is working with who was never assessed during her pregnancy and ended up having a traumatic birth.

In the USA, medical providers focus on keeping the baby and mom alive in the birth process. Yet we as a medical/health community can be doing so much more to prepare mom’s body for birth. We can learn how to assess the sacral position, pelvic floor muscles and the uterine ligaments to get the body in the best position possible for a smooth birth. Another thing we can do is teach moms how to push prior to being in labor, so they will know what this feels like and how to engage their pelvic muscles when it is time to push during childbirth. A lack of preparation can lead to longer and more traumatic births. Listen in to learn more about Lynn’s case study and tips on how to better support your pregnant clients and prepare them for a smoother birth.

  • Round Ligament in Pregnancy
    Apr 22 2024

Is your client’s pregnant belly squashed? Is the belly greater from side to side as opposed to vertical?

In today’s podcast Lynn talks about working with the round ligament to allow more space for the baby within the abdominal cavity.

When your pregnant client comes to you with a greater transverse position of the belly it is important to treat the round ligament. The round ligament is a key component to decreasing the squished look of the uterus. In combination with an inversion, it can create space for a more vertical presentation for the baby which can lead to a smoother birth. For more information, you can also check out Lynn’s recent case presentations on treating the ligaments of the uterus.
