    THE TOMORROWTHON BEGINS...

A few months ago, Alec and Brian made a deal. If Brian managed to watch all of Future Diary for an episode of the main show, Alec would agree to doing a marathon of DC's maligned Tomorrowverse of animated films, ending with the Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy. Brian held up his end of the bargain, and now Alec must pay the piper. The introduction to this weird little universe was seen as a much-needed improvement compared to its predecessor, but does that still ring true? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they begin the TOMORROWTHON with 2020's SUPERMAN: MAN OF TOMORROW!

    Aug 15 2024

"MY DESERT. MY ARRAKIS. MY DUNE."

Onto the next hundred tracks, and what better way to start off than a two-parter? Frank Herbert's Dune is considered to not only be one of the best sci-fi novels of all time, but one of the most influential pieces of storytelling, influencing the likes of Star Wars and countless others. For many years, Hollywood has tried and failed to bring this deconstruction of the hero's journey to the big screen, until Denis Villeneuve took a gamble in adapting the first half before going on to the rest. The first chapter of his take on the classic novel hit theaters to mass acclaim and success, but does the film still hold up -- both on its own and now with its second half? Come join Brian and Alec to find out as they journey into Arrakis with DUNE: PART ONE!

    DUBSTEP NEVER DIES!

After the monumental success of the first film, a Deadpool sequel was quickly put in development. Set to be bigger, bolder, and louder, this film marks the first live-action appearances of characters such as Cable and Domino, as well as a shift toward the "Sad Clown" aspect of Wade's character in the comics. While the film still did well critically and commercially, people had a notion for years that it was a step down from its predecessor, but is that truly the case? Before you go see DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, come join Brian and Alec to find out as they wrap up the X-MENATHON with the second chapter of the Merc with a Mouth's trilogy -- DEADPOOL 2!

    MAXIMUM EFFORT

After the failure of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and five years of development hell, test footage for Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool film leaked online in 2014. Unable to ignore the overwhelmingly positive reception, the film was finally given the greenlight, with all the bells and whistles it asked for - a bloody R-rated comedy more faithful to the comics. Upon release, it was a monumental success and changed the game for what could be done in CBMs, as more studios recognized the R-rating as something that can still be profitable. But that was then, and this is now, so how do the film's specific comedic stylings hold up nowadays? Come join Alec and Brian to find out as they continue the X-MENATHON with the beginning of a new trilogy -- DEADPOOL!

  • EP 96 - THE NEW MUTANTS (2020)
    Jul 11 2024

NEVER ASK A WOMAN HER AGE, A MAN HIS SALARY, OR JOSH BOONE WHAT HE THINKS OF MINORITIES.

As they started winding down on mainline X-Men films, as well as noticing the success of spin-offs such as Deadpool and Logan, Fox decided the next era to pivot towards would feature none other than the ragtag team of superpowered youths, the New Mutants. What seemed like an easy slam dunk turned far more interesting as the initial trailer promised something very different in the modern CBM landscape: a full-on superhero horror film. Unfortunately, it was the reception to it that spurred the studio to delay the film by two and a half years over time with the promise of reshooting to further emphasize the horror tone.... despite those reshoots never happening. The movie, after finally being sent out to die as a pandemic theater release, has been lambasted by critics and fans alike, and now it's our turn to beat the dead horse. So, come join Brian and Alec as they continue the X-MENATHON with Josh Boone's dull, half-baked, and bizarrely racist adaptation of THE NEW MUTANTS!
