Gerard Schaefer was a former deputy sheriff from Martin County, Florida, convicted of murder for the double homicide of two teenagers in 1972 in Port St Lucie, Florida. He later became known as The Killer Cop because of his profession at the time of his arrest. The press also dubbed him The Hangman because he liked to bind his victims to trees using a hangman's noose. In addition to the two teenagers, the authorities believe he was responsible for the deaths of at least 26 other women. What drove this sheriff's deputy commit murder? In November 1985, John Cruxley was arrested for the rape and torture of 19-year-old Laura Murphy in Malabar, Florida. She said during her two days of captivity, he sexually assaulted her multiple times, and drained 40%-45% of her blood. He also claimed he drank her blood after extracting it. Famed FBI profiler Robert Ressler stated he had no doubt Crutchley was a serial killer with potentially more than 30 victims. The Highway of Tears is a section of highway between Prince Rupert and Prince George, British Columbia, Canada that spans approximately 719 kilometers or 447 miles. Since 1970, crimes have been committed along this stretch of highway against numerous Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. The number of suspected victims is thought to be upwards of 80 women. Between 1972 and 1983, women in Anchorage, Alaska were being hunted by a vicious killer. Normally that phrase is used when a killer searches for his next victim. But in this case, Robert Hansen was literally hunting women. He would abduct them and take them to a remote area where they had no chance of getting away before he let them think they were being set free. Then he would hunt them down like a wild animal.
