  • BUT WHY BITESIZE - WAR WITH TABAN SHORESH
    Aug 28 2023
This week's But Why bitesize is extraordinary and a little different. In normal circumstances, these mini episodes involve a very complicated edit, but not this week. In this episode Clemmie is looking at war with child genocide survivor Taban Shoresh, who founded Lotus Flower, a non-profit that supports female conflict survivors and refugees in Kurdistan, Iraq. And this shortened episode is simply her first answer. You can find the full episode wherever you get your podcasts. With a political activist father during Saddam Hussein’s regime, Taban was imprisoned with her family aged just four, and they narrowly escaped being buried alive.  After a year dodging bombs and bullets, they were finally flown to the UK by Amnesty to start a new life.  In 2016 decided to give up her successful City of London career and establish Lotus Flower. It now supports women and girls who lost everything at the hands of ISIS, including their homes and loved ones, and who also suffered barbaric crimes such as slavery, rape and torture. To find out more about Lotus Flower visit Supporting Women & Girls impacted by conflict I The Lotus Flower. And to check out more content and listen to previous episodes go to @ButWhy_podcast. • BUT WHY REWIND - BURNOUT WITH CAROLINE DOONER
    Aug 24 2023
In this look back, we head to May, 2022, when Clemmie explored burn out with writer, humourist, ex-professional actress & singer Caroline Dooner, who wrote the The F*ck It Diet, all about her relationship with food and dieting, and Tired as F*ck, all about her "exhaustion & two years of rest". Ten years ago Caroline started writing a blog called The Fuck It Diet as she tried to heal her relationship with food, and learn about the dark side of dieting. What she learned about food and weight changed her life. If you struggle with your relationship with food, the The F*ck It Diet is for you. In 2016, four years after she healed her relationship with food, she realised she was exhausted, burnt out, and...filled with existential dread. Her second book, Tired as F*ck, is about how she got back on her feet and her "years being a neurotic little b*tch". Read the beginning here! Learn more about your ad choices. • BUT WHY BITESIZE - GUT HEALTH WITH THE MAC TWINS
    Aug 21 2023
We're taking another trip down But Why memory lane to find a chat all about your gut. Clemmie welcomed twins Lisa and Alana Macfarlane (aka DJs The Mac Twins), who set up The Gut Stuff website to empower gut health in everyone after taking part in a piece of ground breaking research. Lisa and Alana had tried every fad diet under the sun, including the cabbage soup diet pre-Magaluf 2005 (remember that?) and grew up in Scotland eating deep-fried pizza and chips That all changed when they volunteered to be part of the TwinsUK research at King’s College London. Twins are a great constant for medical research, and they became the ‘chief guinea pigs’ for the British Gut Project. They discovered that despite twins having 100% of the same DNA, their guts shared only 30–40% of the same microbiota (head to intro to the gut for more on the basics!), which could explain why all of our bodies behave so differently.  Check out Lisa and Alana on Instagram @themactwins and The Gut Stuff @thegutstuff. And visit Home - The Gut Stuff for more info on how you can improve your gut health. The episode was made in partnership with Bimuno.  Biumuno Daily is a unique, high in fibre prebiotic supplement that has been proven to need and stimulate the growth of good bacteria in the gut.
