• I Kinda Had Something Else In Mind: Breaking from Family Traditions
    Nov 18 2020

The holidays are upon us and that means family traditions.  But sometimes you want to do something different; you want to start a new tradition...or maybe you just want to do something different this year.  Covid has given us all an opportunity to reassess how we will celebrate in 2020.  Today Mama VJ and I are joined by a special guest - Edward Coles. Edward comes from a ministerial family and is a fourth-generation preacher in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC). He has pastored for 29 years and serves as the Assistant to the Bishop of the Washington DC Jurisdiction COGIC. Pastor Edward is a family man, married for 39 years with children and grandchildren whom he loves dearly. Coming from a family with a rich legacy, Pastor Edward knows a few things about family traditions...but he’s also not afraid to switch it up. He’s the perfect guest to share in this conversation.  Enjoy!!

  • Courage to Change
    Nov 3 2020

Whether you like it or not, things are always changing. Familiarity makes it hard to embrace anything different. Today Mama VJ and I talk about the reality of change and how we deal with it. How to push past what you’ve always known, to get to who you are supposed to be.

  • When Good People Do Bad Things
    Oct 27 2020

We’ve all heard it:  “Good people can do bad things”. So is that an excuse for bad behavior or is it a realization of the flaws in our humanity?  If you’re a “godly” person is it possible to do something “ungodly”...and if so, what does that really mean??  Mama VJ and I have a real and raw conversation about this today. Take a listen and challenge what you always thought.

    Oct 23 2020

Getting comfortable in your own skin can be one of the hardest things to do, but man is it worth it!  Today Mama VJ and I reflect on the process of coming into your own and realizing that, despite everything, “You look good, girl!”

  • I Can't Imagine How That Feels: Empathizing Without Owning
    Oct 13 2020

We all want to be heard.  We all want to be understood.  Sometimes, however, despite our best intentions, we just don't quite get it when we hear about the plight or experiences of others.  We all have different backgrounds and experiences.  To empathize with someone is to feel for them, but it doesn't mean you have to own their feelings.  Empathizing also doesn't mean that you're guilty.  It just means you see someone in pain and you care.  In this day and age, empathy is hard to come by.  Mama VJ and I talk about it today in a real heart to heart discussion.  Enjoy!

  • Lies We Tell Ourselves!
    Oct 6 2020

Last time we talked about the lies we tell our kids. Well, that conversation led Mama VJ and I to start thinking and talking about the lies we tell ourselves. This conversation was so enlightening to us both, as we realized it’s more about the truths we don’t tell ourselves often enough. Enjoy today’s conversation and re-engage with the truth.

  • This is Going to Hurt Me More Than it Hurts You: Lies We Tell Our Kids
    Sep 29 2020

Parenting is one of the most difficult, and rewarding things you’ll ever experience. It’s not difficult because of the kids, it’s difficult because of all the stuff you wish you could shield your kids from. So what do we do as parents?  We lie!  Not deceitful lies, but the protective kind that we hope will protect their hearts. Inevitably, this doesn’t work...but we keep trying!!!  Today mom and I talk about the kids we tell our kids. It’s very different having this conversation with your MOM.  Enjoy!!

  • To Thine Own Self Be True: Self Betrayal
    Sep 22 2020

How many times do we know the right thing to do, but then in a split moment, we don't follow through?  It's actually a form of self-betrayal.  Today Mama VJ and I talk about keeping it 100 with yourself and following your gut.  Most of the time, if not all of the time, there's a moment when your conscience lets you know what to do.  That's where it all begins.  What do you do next?
