A reminder that the best way to move fast in a professional setting is to (BTR)! Breath, Think and then Respond/React. Take your time, slow down, and do the task right.
I have been faced with multiple opportunities to use my own BTR formula, and failed to execute properly. I spent a large portion of my life and professional career make the best decision with ~40% of the required information, and in the most expeditious fashion possible. It kept me and others alive…
Fast forward, and I found myself in a much different environment; an environment where I did NOT benefit from such expedient decisions…there were no life and death scenarios; however, I was still responding as if there were. I was using the BTR formula, just not in the right way.
Trust me, in most non-combat/emergent situation, the saying could almost be, “Go take a nap, go on a hike and come back in three days to see if people are ready to make any moves towards thinking about a decision…”. Know your environment and what is required in order to be successful and to have longevity.
