  • Our Desire
    Nov 7 2025

    ‘It came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.’
    —Luke 11:1

    ‘Pray’r is the soul’s sincere desire,
    Utter’d or unexpress’d,
    The motion of a hidden fire
    That trembles in the breast.

    ‘Pray’r is the burden of a sigh,
    The falling of a tear;
    The upward glancing of an eye,
    When none but God is near.

    ‘Pray’r is the simplest form of speech
    That infant lips can try;
    Pray’r the sublimest strains that reach
    The majesty on high.

    ‘Pray’r is the christian's vital breath,
    The christian’s native air,
    His watchword at the gate of death—
    He enters heav’n with pray'r.

    Pray'r is the contrite sinners’ voice
    Returning from his ways,
    While angels in their songs rejoice
    And say,—“Behold he prays.”’
    —James Montgomery

  • God’s Care
    Nov 6 2025

    ‘Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings’
    —Psalm 17:8

    ‘Under his wings I am safely abiding;
    Tho' the night deepens and tempests are wild,
    Still I can trust him, I know he will keep me;
    He has redeemed me and I am his child.

    ‘Under his wings, under his wings,
    Who from his love can sever?
    Under his wings my soul shall abide,
    Safely abide forever.

    ‘Under his wings, what a refuge in sorrow!
    How the heart yearningly turns to its rest!
    Often when earth has no balm for my healing,
    There I find comfort, and there I am blest.

    ‘Under his wings, O what precious enjoyment!
    There will I hide till life's trials are o'er;
    Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me;
    Resting in Jesus I'm safe evermore.’
    –William Cushing

  • God’s Assurance
    Nov 5 2025

    ‘He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.’
    —1 John 5:12

    ‘Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
    Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
    Heir of salvation, purchased of God,
    Born of His Spirit, wash'ed in His blood.

    ‘This is my story, This is my song,
    Praising my Saviour all the day long;
    This is my story, this is my song
    Praising my Saviour all the day long.

    ‘Perfect submission, perfect delight,
    Visions of rapture burst on my sight;
    Angels descending, bring from above,
    Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

    ‘Perfect submission, all is at rest,
    I in my Saviour am happy and blest;
    Watching and waiting, looking above,
    Fill'd with His goodness, lost in His love.’
    —Fanny Crosby

  • God’s Grace
    Nov 4 2025

    ‘…I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.’
    —2 Timothy 1:12

    ‘I know not why God’s wondrous grace
    To me He hath made known,
    Nor why unworthy—Christ in love
    Redeemed me for His own.

    ‘But “I know Whom I have believed,
    And am persuaded that He is able
    To keep that which I’ve committed
    Unto Him against that day.”

    ‘I know not how this saving faith
    To me He did impart,
    Nor how believing In His Word
    Wrought peace within my heart

    ‘I know not how the Spirit moves,
    Convincing men of sin,
    Revealing Jesus thro' the Word,
    Creating faith in Him.

    ‘I know not what of good or ill
    May be reserved for me,
    Of weary ways or golden days,
    Before His face I see.

    ‘I know not when my Lord may come,
    At night or noonday fair,
    Nor if I walk the vale with Him,
    Or “meet Him in the air.” ’

  • God’s Forgiveness
    Nov 3 2025

    ‘Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.’
    —Luke 7:47

    ‘Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound)
    That saved a wretch like me!
    I once was lost, but now am found,
    Was blind, but now I see.

    ‘ ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
    And grace my fears relieved;
    How precious did that grace appear
    The hour I first believed!

    ‘Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
    I have already come;
    ’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
    And grace will lead me home.

    ‘The Lord has promised good to me,
    His word my hope secures;
    He will my shield and portion be,
    As long as life endures.

    ‘Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
    And mortal life shall cease;
    I shall possess within the veil,
    A life of joy and peace.

    ‘The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
    The sun forbear to shine;
    But God, who called me here below,
    Will be forever mine.’
    —John Newton

  • God’s Fountain
    Nov 2 2025

    ‘In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.’
    —Zechariah 13:1

    ‘There is a fountain filled with blood
    Drawn from EMMANUAL’S veins;
    And sinners, plunged beneath that flood
    Lose all their guilty stains.

    ‘The dying thief rejoiced to see
    That fountain in his day;
    And there have I, as vile as he,
    Washed all my sins away.

    ‘Dear dying Lamb, thy precious blood
    Shall never lose its pow’r
    Till all the ransomed church of God
    Be saved, to sin no more.

    ‘E’er since, by faith, I saw the stream
    Thy flowing wounds supply:
    Redeeming love has been my theme,
    And shall be till I die.

    ‘But when this lisping, stammering tongue
    Lies silent in the grave,
    Then in a nobler, sweeter song
    I’ll sing thy power to save.’
    —William Cowper
