Cooking is Connecting

By: Chef Kibby
  • Summary

  • If you have a child in your life who has experienced trauma (and after a worldwide pandemic, that’s practically all of us), there’s a good chance that they are living with chronic anxiety and worry that is hijacking their ability to form healthy attachments with those who love them most — including you.

I’m Chef Kibby, a biological, foster, and adoptive dad, and I invite you to learn how to embrace the inherent trust of the kitchen as we use the connecting power of cooking and eating together with our children to bring about healing and restoration — because while trauma is disruptive, cooking is connecting!

  • You Are Needed - a Non-Political Response to the Overturning of Roe vs. Wade
    Jun 30 2022

I am not interested in getting involved in the political debates and arguments that have followed the recent decision by the United States Supreme Court. However, I do think it’s important for people like us - parents and caregivers with a heart for children and seeing the Hunger for Connection in others - to talk openly and honestly about what the future holds in the wake of this monumental ruling.

Now more than ever before, you are needed…

    - by people in our communities who are hurting, scared, or angry about what has transpired,

    - and by women who are or may become pregnant and have to face a new, more limited set of options.

No matter where you stand on the political or ideological spectrum, I think you’ll agree with me that the Hunger for Connection can frame our thoughts and responses in a way that allows us to show grace and compassion even toward those with whom we disagree. That is my prayer for you, and I hope you find this episode encouraging.

  • Cooking Inspires a New Sense of Self
    Jun 28 2022

As you make a regular practice of cooking and eating together with your child - and doing so from a place of connection, utilizing the four pillars of the Cooking is Connecting Mindset that we’ve talked about in recent episodes — you open up your child to experience the fifth and final mindset pillar, and that’s inspiration.

A connected child has the ability to begin seeing themselves differently: as someone who is seen, soothed, safe, and secure. This regulated emotional place allows this young person to not only be more present in their daily lives but to dream about what their life could become.

In this week’s episode, you’ll hear how you can continue to use the kitchen to round out this mindset shift for you and your child to inspire them to bigger, better things for their future (and not just in the kitchen).

  • Give Your Child a Voice
    Jun 13 2022

Have you ever tasted something truly delicious and wondered to yourself, “what is that ingredient that makes this one stand out from all the others?”

Many good recipes have that one secret ingredient that takes the flavor profile to the next level. In the recipe for making children feel safe and loved, that ingredient is empowerment — and the most empowering thing you can do for your child is to give them a voice.

The kitchen is a great place to empower your child with choices - many of which have little to no bearing on the final product. Today, I’ll help you to identify how to use this perspective to guide your cooking process.

I’m Chef Kibby, and I hope you enjoy the episode and hit the Subscribe button so you don’t miss any of the amazing insights to come. Thanks for joining me, and I’ll see you in the kitchen!
