Although ministry had been placed on his heart as a teenager, he spent over a decade working on farms before the Lord called him to his first official ministry job. Since then, he has led small churches in both New Jersey and Minnesota.

Joey married his wife Leanne in 2006, and they are raising four children together: Oskar, Mischa, Henry, and Rowan. In his free time, Joey enjoys bird watching, photography, trying new foods with his wife, and taking his children out on adventures.
