He avoided the spotlight and didn't have a lot of friends

Although most of the girls liked him; the boys did not...

Donn didn't fit in...until he discovered alcohol...

It was like a light switch!

Why did he get help at 25?

Because his parents couldn't afford to lose another child...

  • It Takes Effort to Bring People Together with Mark Nessbaum
    Jun 18 2024

Mark Nussbaum was one of the founders of Signature Consultants, served as its COO for 20 years and most recently served as the Chief Administrative Officer of Dexian. Currently, Mark serves as a Strategic Advisor. One part visionary, one part anthropologist, one part lawyer, Mark manages to stay a step ahead — in business, strategy, IT staffing, you name it — while remaining utterly present when you talk to him.

In all of his roles, Mark heralds the importance of getting to know and understand people. He leads by example. Growth mindset isn’t a buzzword for him. It’s a way of life. And he makes sure the people throughout the organization have the feedback and tools they need to learn, grow and thrive.

Mark joined Signature in 2000, following undergrad and law degrees from the University of Michigan, being senior partner at the leading law firm of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, and serving as EVP at premiere medical real estate development firm Rendina Companies.

He’s a passionate Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen fan (and a music lover, in general) who isn’t afraid to call on a favorite lyric to drive home his point. Mark calls both Boston and Fort Lauderdale home, but makes his way across the U.S. for speaking engagements about the future of work and the nature of companies.

Welcome to Cut Through the Noise, bringing you the truth behind the headlines in business and current events, Hosted by Dave Turano

'When I got out of college, the job market was horrendous and I didn't know what I wanted to do. For a year, I applied to every job on the planet and saved up a stack of rejection letters from all off them'

So what did Tom Hannigan and his Criminal Justice degree do after he graduated from St. Anselm College?

He worked in a warehouse, and then as a security guard, and finally as a claims adjuster.

A few years later, his buddy got him an interview at EMC for a sales job.

Tom had not heard of EMC at at the time, but he took the interview anyway.

    And? He fell short...

His buddy shared the following feedback when it was over...

'They said you were pretty mediocre...'

Thankfully for Tom, EMC gave him a second chance.

'I was at the right place at the right time and blessed to be molded by them'

Tom put in the work and rose through the ranks at EMC for the next 16 years.

Today, he sits atop ServiceNow Americas - a company that he's watched grow from $400 Million and 1000 employees to $10 Billion and 23,000 employees since he joined ten years ago.

    How?

'We have the best people and the best people always win'

Listen to this upbeat conversation about having fun with people that you like and trust.

'Nothing ever came easy to me. I wasn't a great athlete nor the best student, but I've always loved being part of a team.'

Tom Hannigan found his dream job

And he'd be the first one to tell you that he got it with a little help from his friends.
