  • Living Out Faithfulness (Daily Devotional)
    Jul 3 2024
Shalom and it's so good that you could join us today, even as we have been looking into living out the fruit of the Spirit. I hope this has really encouraged you and showed you how the Holy Spirit works in us, to manifest the fruit of the Spirit. Today, we look at faithfulness, the fruit of the Spirit and as we have been constantly reiterating that the fruit of the Spirit is the result of the working and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. What does faithfulness mean? Faithfulness means to be steadfast, to be constant, to stay on course, to not give up especially when there may be a time of discouragement. It is to stay on track and be sure of your beliefs, it is following your beliefs and purposes. Faithfulness is the working out of our faith in God. When we have faith in God, we are being faithful. Faithfulness is really believing that God is who He says He is and continuing in that belief despite the challenges of life. This means that we trust what God says and who He says He is in the Bible and not necessarily what the world may tell us. The only way we can have such faith is by the Holy Spirit's influence, He testifies to the truth and He impels us to seek God. The Spirit is the one who makes us faithful. Proverbs chapter 3, verses 3 to 4 reads, ‘let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck write them on the tablet of your heart. So, you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.’ Faithfulness is not to be forsaken. We read in Hebrews chapter 11, an account of faithful men and women. Many of them were ordinary people, they faced temptations and sin and difficulties like we do, they might have had their own mistakes but they continued to be faithful because they acted on the faith that they had in the Lord. So, how can you and I live out this faithfulness? God is faithful to us so He expects us to be faithful to Him. Being faithful to Him is to trust Him, to be loyal to Him, to live out our faith in Him by building and deepening our relationship with Him, to having an intimacy with God is a way of being faithful. Faithfulness is also showing integrity to all the things that God has entrusted to us. God has entrusted us with many things, He's called us to be stewards of our work, of our families, of our ministry, of our health and when we carry out these responsibilities in these different areas of influence, we are being faithful to what God has put us in charge to. How else do we live out faithfulness? When we actively choose to trust in God's promises especially when times are hard, we are resolving to remain faithful. Lastly, when we endure trials and temptations with unwavering faithfulness, we demonstrate the sovereignty of God and believe that all that He does is for our good. So, we can live out this faithfulness as a fruit of the Spirit and when we do so, we honor God and we really show out who God is to the world. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, Lord we pray that we will be faithful unto you, as you constantly are faithful to us. May we look to you and also be good stewards of all that you have faithfully entrusted to us. May we take things seriously and do things in in a way that will please you. We pray that we will grow in our faith and as a result in our faithfulness to you and to the things of God, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen. • Kindness & Goodness (Daily Devotional)
    Jul 2 2024
Shalom and thank you once again for joining us. Through the last week, we have picked out every fruit of the Spirit and really looking deeper into how it can be lived out. Today, for our devotion, we're going to be looking at two fruits, that is kindness and goodness. The fruit of the Spirit is the result of the Holy Spirit's presence in us and we can exhibit this only because of being empowered by the Holy Spirit. So, kindness and goodness are two distinct fruits of the Spirit and they work together to really bring about who God is and the true character of who God is. So, let's explore them individually and how they manifest in our lives. Kindness is having an attitude of compassion and consideration, it's an overflow of love and it seeks to meet the needs of others by showing grace and mercy. Kindness flows from the love of God that dwells within us and is demonstrated through our words, our actions and what we say, what we do. Ephesians chapter 4, verse 32 reads, ‘and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.’ Let's look at the example of Jesus and see how He lived out kindness because there's so much to learn and imitate. Jesus showed kindness to all those who were oppressed, they were marginalized, those who were low in society, we see that He showed kindness, He reached out to the outcasts, He healed the sick, He delivered those who were oppressed, He demonstrated the love of God and compassion, He showed kindness in that way. Jesus frequently engaged in acts of service and did things of hospitality, showing kindness. We see how Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, He served and fed the hunger crowds as a result of His compassion, we see that kindness there. We see Jesus showed kindness through His willingness to forgive and extend mercy so that we would not be condemned but rather we would be saved and would enjoy an eternity with Him. Jesus showed kindness by speaking the truth in love. He balanced kindness with honesty, He corrected, admonished those who needed guidance and we see that He wanted to lead them closer to God as the examples that we see in the Samaritan woman. Let's look at goodness, goodness is acting in the uprightness of the heart. As the characteristic of goodness grows in us as a believer, it is acting out God's love to others by helping others. How is it manifested in our lives? Goodness extends to those who may be hurt or may be treated unfairly. It means showing love and grace towards our enemies just the way Jesus did not expecting anything in return. Jesus extending forgiveness was again a sign of goodness to those who had wronged Him, on the cross He prayed and He asked the Lord for forgiveness, we see the goodness of God there. Goodness is also seen through compassion and empathy towards others, this means putting ourselves in the shoes of others, listening to their struggles without judgment. When we actively cultivate these qualities in our lives and allow the Spirit to work through us, we can manifest the fruit of kindness and goodness so that we reflect the character of Jesus Christ. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, whoever you bring before us, may we come with this quality of kindness and goodness, showing others gestures of kindness, acts of service to help them to know that we extend our love because it's been poured out into our hearts by you. Father God, enable us to be kind and good to those around us, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen. • Living Out Patience (Daily Devotional)
    Jul 1 2024
Shalom and thank you and welcome that you've come today and joined us in this time of devotion and this time of looking into God's word. We've been focusing on the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians chapter 5 and we are seeing practically how do we live out these fruit of love, joy and peace. Today, the focus is on patience and as we've been reiterating through the last two days that the fruit of the Spirit is the result of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is not done by our by our own doing but because of who the Spirit is and His working in our lives. So, when we look at patience, living out patience as a fruit of the Spirit is essential for Christians because we reflect the character of God, we reflect who God is especially at times when we have challenges and when we need to continue to persevere. James chapter 1, verses 2 to 4 reads, ‘my brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.’ So, let's explore what it means to practically live out patience. So, patience involves trusting in the timing of God rather than demanding immediate results. We see in the verse, it says, wait for the Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Living out patience means surrendering our timelines to God. What's another way? Patience involves enduring trials with perseverance knowing that God will use them to strengthen our faith and character. What else do we see? The Bible says to be completely humble and gentle, being patient with one another. So, living out patience means extending grace and understanding to others even when they fall short or they disappoint us. It involves forgiveness, forgiving others just like the way God forgave us. Patience is also very closely linked to another fruit which is self-control, living out patience requires exercising self-control over our own emotions, our behavior, our impulses, our desires. It is a way that we require and exercise that self-control. Living out all patience also means trust, trusting in the promises of God and persevering till we see it being fulfilled. Living out patience also involves responding to provocation with gentleness and humility. Living steadfast in prayer, trusting that God will hear our prayer and answer them according to His will and timing. So, we see that living out patience has so many aspects in our lives. When we apply these principles, we live out patience as a fruit of the Spirit, allowing God to work in us through the power of the Holy Spirit. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, even as we have looked into deep about the fruit of patience, there may be many situations around us that we need to exercise this. Holy Spirit, empower us to be patient with others, to be patient in waiting, to be patient in conflicts, to be patient with ourselves. Father, thank you that you always equip us for greater things, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
