  • We Overcome (Daily Devotional)
    Sep 6 2024
Hello everyone, welcome back. We are talking about God’s word. Today, I just want to remind us that the word of God is a weapon in our lives, in our hands and in our mouth. We overcome the enemy with the powerful word of God. Ephesians chapter 6, verse 17, this is the passage where we read about the armor of God, it states, ‘take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.’ We are reminded that the word of God is an offensive weapon against the enemy. When he comes against us with his lies, accusations, condemnations, temptation and all forms of tactics that he applies against people, we can stand up and say, no devil, we are overcomers. We overcome by the word of God. We use the sword of the Spirit, the word of God against satan. We’ve seen Jesus do this during His temptation. He quoted scripture, He went back to scripture and said, it is written, it is written, it is written. This is how Jesus overcame satan during the period of His temptation. It is very important for us to recognize that the word of God which is with us is that offensive weapon that we can readily use against the enemy. Revelations chapter 19, verse 15 again speaks about the word of God. It says, ‘Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword’, referring to the word of God. So, the word of God is the sword out of the mouth of our God. Similarly, when we carry the word in our mouth, no matter what circumstance we are going through, we affirm the word. Maybe we are going through some sort of sickness, pain and discomfort in our body, we are not saying that we must deny facts but at the same time what we are saying is that we can affirm spiritual reality which is greater than the natural reality. Even as we do that, we will see God working in that natural situation and making His word true and making His word manifest. We can just go ahead and speak the word at those times and stand on that word, even if it means it is going to take a while before we see the manifestation. Just hold on to the word. Let the word of God be a part of that war against the enemy that we are in. We will see the victory of God come through in our lives. I just want to encourage us friends that we have the sword of the Spirit, the word of God with us. Let’s use it as a weapon against the enemy. Let’s overcome the enemy with the word of God. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for the powerful weapon of your word in our lives. We pray that we will conquer and overcome every onslaught of the enemy with the weapon of your word. Thank you for giving us these weapons and helping us overcome, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. • Speak It (Daily Devotional)
    Sep 5 2024
Hello everyone, it’s been great talking about God’s word. Today, once again, we are going to look at God’s word and the power of His word and how to engage in the word of God. Let’s read from Deuteronomy chapter 30, verses 11 to 16 and then we will go ahead and try and understand this passage. It says, ‘For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.’ Here is an instruction to God’s people in the Old Testament where God is calling His people to use the word or to apply the word. How does He do it? When we look at verse 14, He says, the word is very near you, how near is the word to them or us? He says, in your mouth and in your heart that you may do it. So, God wanted His people to engage with His word and how to engage with His word? Firstly, we are told that the word is in our mouth and when the word is in our mouth, we are to speak the word and so, speaking the word of God, affirming the word of God, declaring the word of God is a part of every believer’s daily vocabulary even. We must be speaking God’s word at all times and we also notice it says, in your heart. So, the word is our mouth that we may speak it but the word is in our heart that we may believe it. Meditating on God’s word, passages of scripture, a couple of sentences, a few words at a time is so very important because what we are doing is that we are taking in the word, getting a hold of the word, we are understanding the word or making an attempt to understand as much as possible so that the word stays in our heart. Another portion there says that you may do it; so, the word is also to be done or we need to align our lives to the word of God. Engaging with the word of God at three levels is what we notice in this passage where God is saying, the word is very near you- speak it, the word in your heart which means let’s believe it and because we know the word, we must live it out and do God’s word and take action. This is the way that we engage in God’s word. God promised Joshua, that if you are in the word and if the word is in you, you are meditating on the word day and night and you are doing it, you will make your way prosperous and have good success. This is the path that God is showing us to be in the word, engage in the word and see God prospering us. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for the truth of your word. Thank you that your word is so powerful and as we engage in it, we will see good success and prosperity in all areas of our life. We thank you for showing us this way, we bless you and honor you, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen. • Word Produces (Daily Devotional)
    Sep 4 2024
Hello everyone, welcome back. We are talking about God’s word. Today, we will consider the fact that God’s word produces. God’s word is dependable, it is immutable, it is pure, powerful and God’s word also produces. When we look at the parable of the sower, we read about it in the gospels. Jesus explains the parable and He explains what the sower was actually sowing and the seed there He states is the word of God. Mark chapter 4, verse 14, ‘The sower sows the word.’ Just like the natural process of a seed sprouting up and growing into a plant and eventually bearing fruit, the word of God is sown in our hearts as a seed. What Jesus was saying is that we must keep our hearts as good ground to sow the seed of God’s word. When we sow the word of God pertaining to different aspects of our lives, today, it might seem that our life is like a barren land and that there is no crop or no fruit to be seen but as we sow the seed, we know that one day there will be a crop and a harvest. So, friends I just want to encourage us, it is hard work, just the way a farmer sows seed and doesn’t have a produce the very next day but he has a task of nurturing and protecting the seed, we too, will need to nurture and protect the seed of God’s word that we sow in our hearts but surely the harvest will come and we will see fruit even to a hundred-fold. I want to encourage us to ensure that we have God’s word, that we understand it, memorize God’s word, confess over our lives God’s word, that we declare over the various aspects of our lives. There is another passage from the Old Testament that reiterates this very thought that God’s word produces. This is from Isaiah chapter 55, verses 10 and 11, where we are told that ‘the word of God that goes forth from His mouth will not return to Him void but it will accomplish what God pleases.’ So, the word carries potential to produce and that is God’s intention when He sends the word. Let’s sow the word in our hearts, protect it, nurture it and surely, we will reap of its harvest. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you that you have given us your word as a seed. We thank you that as we are faithful in sowing the seed, like the farmer that rejoices, we will rejoice in the fruit that the word produces in our lives, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. • Powerful (Daily Devotional)
    Sep 3 2024
Hello everyone, welcome back. We are talking about God’s word and today, we will consider the fact that God’s word is powerful. Hebrews chapter 11, verse 3, ‘By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.’ We understand here that even the worlds that were created were created by the power of God’s word. It is an incredible thought that everything that exists was created by God’s word. God spoke and He calls the worlds to come about. It really helps us recognize that even when it comes to our very lives, God’s word was spoken and the worlds came to be. Surely, the things that are pertaining to our lives, God creates through His word and He is able to sustain us through His word. We also see in Hebrews chapter 1, verse 3, the initial part of that verse that God created or He upholds all things by the word of His power. So, God is upholding all things by the word of His power. The word is also called as the word of power. For us to notice that everything was put together by the word, it only reveals that there is something inside the word, in terms of the capacity of the word which is able to make things happen. So, the writer of Hebrews puts it this way, the word of His power, the word carries power. It is because the word has power that it is able to create. God created the worlds with His word and that is the kind of power that the word of God carries. As we put our trust in God’s word, we know that this power packed word is creating things for us. We can also on the basis of these two scriptures notice that God created the visible from the invisible. Similarly, when it comes to our lives, families and ministry, let’s hold on to God’s word. Yes, it may initially seem empty and as if nothing is happening but as we engage with the word, as we believe the word, as we speak the word and live by the word, we will begin to see that from the spiritual, things are being impacted in the natural and God creates in the natural form the spiritual. So, the word of God is very powerful. Hebrews chapter 4, verse 12 is another reminder where we are told that the word of God is living and powerful, it is sharper than any two-edged sword. The powerful word of God is in our hands and I just want to encourage us, no matter which situation we are going through, let’s take time in the word. Many a times, we pray and ask God to intervene in our lives but God gives us a word because He wants to work through that word because that word carries power and let’s hold on to that word. Even in the invisible will be made manifest in the natural when we hold on to the word because the word is powerful. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for the word of God which you have out in our hands and hearts. We pray that we will fully understand the power of your word and that the things that are impossible will be made possible because of the power of your word in our lives, we thank you for helping us move in this direction, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen. • Pure (Daily Devotional)
    Sep 3 2024
Hello friends, we are talking about God’s word and the quality of God’s word. Today, we will consider the fact that God’s word is pure. Psalm chapter 12, verse 6, ‘The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.’ God’s word is pure, there is no sin in it, there is no uncleanness, no untruth in the word of God. We can hold on to it, we can rely on it and we can depend on it. God’s word is truth, every word that He has spoken is truth and scriptures also reveal to us that the word Himself, the Lord Jesus is the truth and He is the way. God, His character, His word is all put together and we as believers can trust the word of God. God’s word will never fail. Scriptures remind us that God’s word is settled in heaven. God is not a God who will alter His covenant or He will not take back the word that He has spoken. God’s word endures forever and this must be security enough for us to base our lives on the foundation of God’s word. It is true that even when we receive promises from God, there tend to be delays. The delays can be for various reasons but never the fact that God’s word was untrue. God’s word is always true but there can be so many other factors because of which we are facing delays. I just want to encourage us there is one thing we can be sure about and that is the word of God and the promise of God which is spoken to us is the truth. So, let’s hold on to that word in the face of challenges and delays. Even as we strengthen ourselves in the Lord just the way Abraham did, against all odds, he strengthened himself and waited upon the Lord till God could fulfill that promises and that promise was made manifest in his life. So, let’s hold on and let’s not be discouraged. When God speaks, His words are pure and His word is the truth. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for this revelation that your word is pure and there is no error in your word. Help us to hold on to the promise of your word that in all areas of our lives that we may see those promises fulfilled. We give you all the glory and honor, in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen. • Dependable (Daily Devotional)
    Sep 1 2024
Hello everyone, welcome back. We are talking about God’s word and today, let’s consider the fact that God’s word and His promises are immutable. God is a God of integrity and His character backs up the words that He speaks. We can completely rely on His words. We have a passage in Hebrews chapter 6, verses 11 through 18, where we are told that God gave a promise to Abraham. He blessed Abraham, so we see this in verse 14, He said, ‘Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.’ Then, we also read that God backed up His word, this oath was made firm by His very character. So, God didn’t need any other entity to give an assurance of the words or the promises that He released but He Himself being a holy God, being a God of integrity, He made His word secure. God’s word will not change, His promises for us will not change, God’s promise- the statement He made to Abraham was a promise as well as an oath. We know that anything that the Lord promises us and any oath that He makes to us, He honors it and He stands by it and it is so reliable. Scriptures give us an understanding of God’s character. We are told that our God is an unchanging God. In Malachi chapter 3, verse 6, the verse says, ‘For I am the Lord, I do not change.’ Our God is an unchanging God, His character is an unchanging one. The promises that He has made are true and when God speaks to us, the way He spoke to Abraham and He made these ‘I will’ statement- ‘I will bless you’, ‘I will multiply you’, we can just hold on to the ‘I will’s’ of God because He is an unchanging God and He doesn’t go back on His word. I just want to encourage us, if there are promises that God has made to us and we are holding on to the promises of God from scripture about God’s blessing, leading, healing in our lives, deliverance, promotions, whatever it is, just trust in the word of God because His word is true. The Lord Himself backs up His word and His character backs up the truth that He speaks and so, we can rely on it. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you that we can completely rely on your word. Your word is immutable, your character is unchanging and so, we can depend on you. God, you will work it out in our lives, we bless you and honor you, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. • Foundation (Daily Devotional)
    Aug 31 2024
Hello everyone, it is great to connect with you. Let’s take sometime to consider the word of God, the word of God which is the very foundation of our faith and what does the bible have to say about the word of God. We will also look at how the Lord Jesus treated the scriptures. Our growth in God is connected to our growth in the word of God. The deeper we journey into the word of God and the more of the word that is in our hearts and lives reveals that we are growing and maturing in God. Our relationship with God can be determined by our relationship with the word of God. Even when it comes to victories in our lives, it depends on how we are understanding and applying the word. As believers, we must give the word of God much importance. When we look at Jesus and His life, we understand that He gave the word or the scriptures a lot of importance. There were times when He needed to teach the scriptures to others and so, He was able to expound them well because He had spent time in the scriptures. We see this in Luke chapter 24, verse 27, where the Lord Jesus was able to explain the scriptures to the people. We also notice that He spent time studying the scriptures, this is in Luke chapter 2, verse 46. So, the scriptures were very important to Jesus. When it came to His own trials, one particular trial or temptation we can think of was during His 40 days of fasting, when satan came against Him and tempted Him with suggestions, we see the response of our Lord Jesus. He pulled out scriptures and He spoke scriptures against the enemy and so that was His common way of living life, of overcoming the attacks of satan. So, Jesus overcame satan with scripture. We also know that the way He lived His life was so aligned to the scriptures. Time and again, in the gospels, we read that in doing certain things that He was actually fulfilling scripture. So, we recognize that the word of God Himself because the Lord Jesus is the word who became flesh, He was committed to the scriptures and so, that is an inspiration for us to spend time in the word, study the word, apply the word and understand the word such that we can explain it to others and also make it a huge part of our lives. We are told in 2 Timothy chapter 3, verses 15 and 16 that scripture is inspired by God and that it is profitable for our life. There are many aspects of scripture that strengthen us, it helps us become strong in the doctrine, it corrects us, it helps us to be instructed in righteousness and many other things. So, let’s base our lives on the word of God because that is the final authority. Let’s pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for the word of God which is our foundation. We pray that we will be built up on the word and that the word will strengthen us, sustain us and guide us, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
