Welcome to ”Dog Training Bytes” – the show where canine professionals share their key takeaways, big a-ha moments, and hardest lessons learned from working with dogs.

On today’s episode, for the Season One Finale, Mattison is speaking with Zach Skow!

Zach’s story begins not as a dog trainer, but as a human who saw his life slipping away from fatal liver disease at the age of 28. Through a power I’m very familiar with, Zach’s dogs gave him a reason to live and to start fighting for something greater. In 2009, Marley’s Mutts was born, a rescue with a focus on community outreach through their brilliant and transformative program, Pawsitive Change. The Pawsitive Change program brings together dog rescue and incarceration through a powerful business model that provides endless benefits to multiple areas of our community. Prison inmates receive life-changing and recidivism-ending skills as dog trainers, and rescue dogs avoid euthanasia in over-crowded shelters while they learn the skills that can help them successfully transition to THEIR new life.

You can connect with Zach on Instagram and Facebook, and through his rescue Marley’s Mutts and the Pawsitive Change Program.

Episode 11: Lauren Sisak (Sit. Stay. Stella.)

Lauren is a certified professional dog trainer with advanced certifications such as puppy start right instructor via the Karen Pryor academy and Michael Shikashio’s Aggression in Dogs Master Course. Her business, Sit. Stay. Stella., provides training, sitting, and boarding with a dash of, and I quote “spunk and sass, adding a playful spark to every moment” (I can personally attest to witnessing this). Lauren believes in the power of unwavering support, patience, and (something we both built our businesses on), second chances.

    From Lauren:

This episode is dedicated to my dear friend Sasha who passed away earlier this year. You taught me so many things, of course tons of dog training knowledge, but the most important lesson was believing in myself. We became friends during a really challenging period of my life and you’ll never know how much your kindness and badassery meant to me. I think about you often when I’m approaching a complex case and wish I could bounce ideas off of you still. Thank you Sasha for teaching me more than you’ll ever know.

Episode 7: Kendyl Callaway (Sentient Sparky Dog Training Co.)

Welcome to ”Dog Training Bytes” – the show where canine professionals share their key takeaways, big a-ha moments, and hardest lessons learned from working with dogs.

On today’s episode, Mattison is speaking with Kendyl Callaway

    From Kendyl:

Over the course of my evolving work with dogs I have focused a majority of my time on canine wellness, nutrition, and a holistic approach to behavior and training. My goal is to understand biologically, physiologically, genetically, environmentally, emotionally, and cognitively what contributes to the presenting behaviors of clients that come to me. More often than not, we start work with an "aggressive" dog and end up working with a Veterinarian or a specialist on the manifestation of physical symptoms or internal casualties that are contributing to the behavior we label as "aggression" and also an enrichment plan that seeks to enhance the dog's quality of life and overall well-being. With that being said, I sometimes categorize myself as an impassioned pursuer of all topics related to canine wellness. I want to educate every client that reaches out for help in a compassionate way that enables them to see their dog through multiple lenses not just the human lens of "getting rid of this undesired behavior." I love learning from all of the wonderful professionals around us and to see the evolving research and time being invested into applied ethology, canine nutrition, all species epigenetics, and more.

Currently, I work in person doing canine behavior coaching in the Metro Jackson, MS area which is an eI previously worked in Delaware County, PA as a dog trainer and apprentice with Mattison, Freed By Training and as a group dog training instructor at A Pawsitive Improvement in Brandon, MS. I offer free consultations nationwide to shelters, rescues, and adopters who are working on transitioning a new rescue dog into their home and lifestyle.
