  • Mark Waid 3 | Absolute Power
    Jul 3 2024

He's baaaaaack! That's right, Mark Waid returns for his third solo interview to chat with us about Absolute Power, the huge summer crossover that touches virtually every corner of the DC Universe. Mark is the architect of the project and writer for the central miniseries, the first issue of which comes out TODAY (7/3) with frequent collaborator Dan Mora on art duties. So what's Absolute Power about? Well, listen to the interview. But the basic gist is that, after the "House of Brainiac" storyline, Amanda Waller recruits Failsafe and Brainiac Queen to aid her mission to neutralize the powers of every metahuman on Earth. Fun stuff!

As always, you can follow Mark on Instagram/Threads @markwaidwrites and by searching for his name on Facebook and Bluesky.

  • 3rd Anniversary Special
    Jun 28 2024

This little podcast just turned three! And all three Bandits showed up to celebrate in a live show that kinda goes all over the place. We answer listener questions, then talk about a few Hollywood costume reveals, upcoming projects we're looking forward to, and some show related items. Then we take a deep-ish dive into the upcoming omnibi for the DC vs. Marvel crossovers and the Amalgam Age. Were the matchups decided correctly? Did smushing characters together yield any winners? Can any story beat X-Men vs. Teen Titans?

Remember, we're on all the socials: Facebook, X, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, and now Cara. And we're closing in on 1000 subs on YouTube, so please check it out here: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.

  • Indie Spotlight: Michael Schwartz | Armored
    Jun 21 2024

Michael Schwartz already had a bunch of geeky things going on when he decided to try his hand at writing comics. He was a screenwriter (R.L. Stine's Zombie Town, Gnome Alone, ABCs of Death 2.5) and had just secured the new co-host role with our buddies at Wizards: The Podcast Guide to Comics. But he had a story he wanted to tell, and he leveraged all his connections to make it happen. That story is Armored, a spooky tale about an orphan who finds and wields a haunted medieval suit of armor. Michael envisions it as an ongoing series but is crowdfunding the publishing of the comics one arc at a time.

Speaking of which, get thee to Kickstarter now (before June 29) to back issues 3-5 of Armored: http://kck.st/3xnJL9C! And you can follow Michael on all the socials, including @TheMikeSchwartz on X and @mikeschwartzwrites on Instagram and Threads.

  • Scott Beatty
    Jun 19 2024

Before he wrote for comics and other comics-inspired projects, Scott Beatty was the founding editor of ToyFare magazine, a spin-off from Wizard that focused on, what else, toys! But comics and superheroes are his original passions, and you can see that on display in his "Sidekick Trifecta" that he co-wrote with Chuck Dixon: Robin: Year One, Batgirl: Year One, Nightwing: Year One, in addition to Joker: Last Laugh. And 20th Anniversary Editions of these books are starting to hit shelves! Besides the actual comics, he's written a ton of superhero reference books, including Ultimate, Definitive, and Essential Guides to the Avengers, Batman, DC Comics, JLA, Superman, and Wonder Woman! The guy knows his stuff.

Look for Nightwing: Year One - The 20th Anniversary Edition slipcase hardcover coming out on August 6. And you can follow Scott on X @Scott_M_Beatty and @scottmbeatty on Instagram.

  • Andy Diggle
    Jun 12 2024

Diggle me this: how does a bloke from the other side of the pond not only break into American comics but become one of the industry's leading writers? When it comes to Andy Diggle, it's about a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck. After starting as an editor on such UK magazines as Judge Dredd, Sonic the Comic, and 2000 AD (in the year 2000 AD!), Andy started writing his own stories in the same magazines. Then it was off to America, where he started writing for Vertigo and DC on titles like Lady Constantine, The Losers, Swamp Thing, Adam Strange, Silent Dragon, and Green Arrow: Year One (which formed the blueprint for the Arrow TV series). Over at Marvel, he wrote Thunderbolts and the Daredevil crossover event Shadowland, among other titles.

Now, he's helping resurrect DC's Elseworlds imprint with the miniseries Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age, the debut issue of which just came out on 6/11/24! You can follow Andy on his site andydiggle.com or on X @andydiggle.
