• I Just Wanna Be Mad
    Sep 2 2024

    Episode summary introduction:

Our episode is inspired by a Terri Clark song “I just wanna be mad”. For those who don’t know Terri Clark, she is a Canadian Country music artist with success in both Canada and the US.

In this song she shares a perspective when there is conflict in a relationship and does not want to move past it until she is done “Being Mad”.

There are so many times we want to move on too quickly without appreciating or respecting another’s feelings. We talk about the importance of this and how this will make a relationship stronger.

    Good News Story:

Our good news story gives a shout out to Team Rubicon, a veteran-led organization that assists cities and towns devastated by wildfires. They assist with conducting reconnaissance, site surveys and damage assessments of the homes affected by the wildfire.

    Topics discussed in this episode:

Being respectful of others feelings when you have done them wrong is never easy to overcome. Looking at both perspectives will always help moving forward:

    • Respecting how you have made someone feel to move in the right direction.
    • Knowing that patience will play a part in this.
    • The best tact to take
    • How emotions come to life in these circumstances.
    • Give them the time they need.
    • Will an apology help?
    • Does forgiveness help.

    Walkabout takeaways:

Whether we like it or not there will be times in life where we have caused some hurt to someone and we need to take action to make amends. This is not always easy but important regardless of the relationship you have with a person. Some sage advice:

    • Never let emotions simmer, always clear the air.
    • Let people have their space.
    • Take responsibility for what you have done.
    • An apology without action or sincerity can do more damage than good.
    • Understanding how to take responsibility for our actions and making amends will make us a better person and leads to a happier life.

  • I Had Some Help
    Aug 27 2024

    Episode summary introduction:

During this episode of Electronic Walkabout we take some license from a Post Malone, Morgan Wallen song “I had some help”. The song laments that a failed relationship is not one sided and it truly takes two to tangle or in this case, untangle. It is far from easy to see both sides of the story impartially. Today we journey to a mountain to discover the challenge of seeing things from another's perspective and how invaluable it is.

    Good News Story:

We share a beautiful story about 3 college students in Germany who showed the world just how selfless their generation can be through a beautiful video that went viral and has touched the hearts of millions since. The students surprise a homeless man sitting on the sidewalk with a gorgeous instrumental and vocal performance when they handed him the money they collected from passers-by.

    https://youtu.be/X0gA2mxbjSY?si=UV7To4ixQr6L0WQo

    Topics discussed in this episode:

Looking at both perspectives is really just a matter of putting ourselves in the other person’s shoes. In order to do this we explore some pointed questions:

    • Why is it so hard for people to see this perspective?
    • Coming to terms with the fact that you may have caused the issue.
    • How to meet in the middle on the road to compromise.
    • The influence of emotions.
    • Ensuring sincerity.
    • Knowing when to move on.

    Walkabout takeaways:

If truly you care about taking responsibility for a part your played in something that has gone down the wrong path consider this:

    • We all make mistakes and most mistakes can be fixed if the desire is there.
    • The ability for us to look at other’s way of thinking expands the way we look at things and makes it easier to deal with similar issues in the future.
    • When doing this, engage in active listening and make sure that you understand what the person is telling you.
    • When doing this, never judge the person.
    • This includes showing empathy with respect to how the other individual is feeling. This can pay dividends in showing that you are serious about your intentions.
    • Apologize, if you think it is right for you. This means for your action but this also must be with sincerity.

  • Against All Odds
    Aug 18 2024

    Episode summary introduction:

Welcome to another episode of E-Walkabout. This episode our theme comes from the song by Phil Collins “Against all odds". The song is part of the soundtrack from the 1984 movie of the same name.

There are so many times in our lives we don’t appreciate what we have until we walk away from it or lose it. From these times regrets come to life and when they do we have an important decision to make. Do we get it back and if so how???

    Topics discussed in this episode:

During this trek Maddog and TC challenge our listeners to look at lost chances as a positive thing and at times, timing considered, get them back:

    • Why do we not know, inherently, when we have a good thing?
    • When do we typically realize that regret has come to life?
    • Are there times when we have let something slip away from us that we can get it back?
    • Managing regret.
    • Being confident about speaking your mind in the moment.
    • Realizing what is important in life?
    • Always waiting to the point of no return when it comes to our health.
    • Failing to recognize that friends and family are more important than anything in life?
    • Seizing those opportunities before they slip away.

    Walkabout takeaways:

Life has a habit of giving us second chances and sometimes more. Tomorrow is never the time for today’s opportunities, We were never meant to live a life of regret.

Please listen to this fantastic song by Phil Collins “Against all odds"!!

  • “Padiddle”
    Aug 11 2024

    Episode summary introduction:

This episode is sparked by a song by the Wallflowers “One Headlight” which explains the title of the episode. “Padiddle” is what is uttered in a game that we play when we see one headlight burnt out. If only the lyrics of the song were that simple. Jakob Dylan, the writer, uses “One Headlight” as a metaphor. The metaphor relates to the death of ideas. but even with this there is hope in the world. For our purpose we can never wait for perfection to move forwards in our lives and if we do, we truly miss opportunities for a better tomorrow.

    Topics discussed in this episode:

TC & Maddog explore some life challenges during this episode focusing on:

    • Why there is disappointment when things don’t go as planned.
    • We all want to live in a perfect world but whose perfect world is it?
    • A lyric from a John Legend song helps with this question when he sings about imperfections as being perfect. What does this really mean?
    • The loss of innocence with this disappointment but there is also adversity that can be the best thing for us in life. How do we turn this negative into a positive?
    • How much does an attitude play in this process?
    • How much do our expectations play in this process?

    Walkabout takeaways:

The next time you see one headlight on a vehicle remind yourself how something that appears imperfect will always be perfect. When you are looking for your perfect world don’t lose the forest of the trees:

    • Even when something appears imperfect that should never stop you from reaching your destination;
    • Life has a way of showing us different perspectives to allow us to appreciate life more;
    • No matter the challenge, engage in a positive attitude.
    • Expect that there will be varied results in life.
    • Finally, as much as these experiences have a habit of taking your innocence away, resist this.

At the time of this recording the Canadian Women's Rugby team had not won a medal. The team did Canada Proud, taking home the Silver!!!

The Wallflowers also cleaned up at the 1998 Grammy Awards, thanks to “One Headlight.” It won the awards for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

  • Workin For A Livin
    May 20 2024

    Episode summary introduction:

Maddog & TC tackle a topic that is becoming just a little controversial.

During the pandemic we had no choice but to work from home. For some, when the pandemic was over transition back to the office was far from appealing.

Recently the government has dictated employees will now have to spend 3 days in the office.

We explore the pros and cons about working from home.

    Topics discussed in this episode:

    • Managing people who work from home.
    • The Pros and Cons of Working from home.
    • Why the angst about going back to the office.

    Walkabout takeaways:

There is no question that we will at times be working from home but the office is still a reality we will have to accept. When working from home consider this:

    • Not everyone will be able to work from home and you have to be honest with yourself if you are one of these people;
    • Be prepared to have limited social interaction when working from home,
    • Keep a routine and be disciplined about your work hours;
    • Make sure that you take breaks and look after yourself if you work from home;
    • Find a place you can work with little or no distraction.

  • Better the Devil you know
    May 13 2024

    Episode summary introduction:

During this episode TC & Maddog talk about how new technology influences our lives from both a positive and negative position. It truly is amazing how technology affects the way we work, the way we play and most importantly the way that we communicate.

    Topics discussed in this episode:

During this episode we breach these topics:

    • Why do some people fully embrace new technology and why others don’t?
    • Technology was sold on the fact it would make our lives easier, has it?
    • What is the value of technology?
    • Can we live without technology?
    • AI, Fiend or Foe?
    • Has technology allowed us to communicate better?

    Walkabout takeaways:

Digital Disruption will always be an element in our ever changing world. Technology can bring value to our lives but in the right perspective:

    • New technology can make our lives easier but it needs to be embraced to understand what its limits are.
    • As people we are not normally good with change, accept that technology will always be changing and always look for the positive
    • Keep it in perspective, Technology can never replace a true face to face conversation.
