  • In this episode, I have highlighted the reasons behind Tesla's conspicuous absence in the growing Indian market. Tesla's plan to enter India has been on hold since 2019, Import duties are the key here. 

    Tesla demands to slash the tariff (which is by far the highest by any large country!) on the other hand Indian government wants tesla to manufacture locally before any tax benefits are considered. 

    As per the government manufacturing in china (The nearest plant of tesla) and selling in India is not a good proposition for the country.

    From tesla's standpoint, they would first like to experiment by offering their service before investing heavily in the Indian market.
