Ep. 13 - What is The Brandon Act?

  • Summary

  • In 2021, military suicides were the highest they have been since World War II, many times brought on by persistent hazing, bullying and sexual assault, sometimes by senior officers. Patrick and Teri Caserta, parents of Brandon Caserta who took his life in 2018, join Melinda to share his story and why The Brandon Act is so important. This bill will allow Americans serving in uniform to seek help confidentially and require a mental health evaluation as soon as the service member self-reports. Thank you to Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) for working tirelessly to get this legislation passed. This bill will not bring Brandon back, but it is an important piece of his legacy that will save countless American lives.
