Ep. 31 - Lessons From Prison | Doug L

  • Summary

  • In the upcoming episode of "Back Alley Chat," we bring you a compelling story that unfolds in two parts. First, we sit down with Doug L., a Dojo and former Coast Guard member who found himself in the midst of the infamous Cocaine Cowboy era in Key West, tasked with stopping drug boats when he was a young man. His journey takes a turn when he secured a scholarship at FAU in Boca Raton. While at FAU, Doug embarks on a part time painting company that rapidly expands into a full blown construction business.

Doug's life takes a twist when he quits drinking in 1997, but this was not the end of his troubles...years later Doug would be arrested on 200 counts of white-collar crimes related to his construction company. He is subsequently sentenced to 10 years in Florida State Prison, specifically the dreaded Martin County Correctional Institute. This prison is renowned for its notoriety, being one of the most dangerous in the country, plagued by deplorable conditions, including the absence of air conditioning and inhumane food standards.

In this episode we will delve deep into the lessons Doug learned during his decade in Florida State Prison. He dived deep into helping others with their legal motions,GED classes, and helping other inmates find a positive outlets in martial arts. This is not an episode you want to miss!
